As I continue to consider a new paint job of my still OEM Palm Beach Imron paint, I've thought about touching up some of the chips etc. That could buy me some time. It really doesn't look bad when the oxidation layer is removed. The decals are another story.

I'm wondering if it's possible to still get touch up paint for that 38 year old light green color?

I don't recall seeing any paint codes in my GMC. But then again I have not looked.

Thanks!

That was fast! That link allowed me to Google WE5254, with the result of a nice cross reference (Paint codes for 1976 GM Motor Home "Frosted Mint")and even a picture of an old PPG color chip page for "1976 Commercial Colors Chevrolet and GMC Truck) showing my color, Frosted Mint.

I hope I can use those numbers to have a small amount of paint made up. Anyone know how that's done?

Look in the front sections of the GMC Maintenance Manual. It lists all of them.

Auto paint shops will mix small batches -- and some can put it in spray cans. I seem to remember Ruck Denney had Glacier blue made -- the minimum was three spray cans.

Clean off (really well) a bit of the original paint that's in good condition.

Drive your coach to a GOOD body and paint shop so they can computer analyze your paint, create a recipe for an exact duplicate, and mix up however much you need.

Any of the local Painter's Supply should be able to mix the paint in the quantity you want. Not sure where you are in SE Michigan but they have a number of stores around. I use the Lincoln Park one at Southfield Rd. and Fort St.

Yes we have when we reprinted ours
The paint code for was not available.
Friend of ours had the DuPont camera .
His company now has our paint color on file as Nielsen Tan.
Need that color ?
Let me know.
The company is located in Orange County Califorina.
Can't remember the name GMC gave it.
It's that tan/yellow color on the Canyon Lands and others.

There you go.
I got lucky.
My friend came to our home from Orange County to do the color match for us.
We now have Nielsen Tan on file with his company and DuPoint.

Try Carpaintonline. I got my '74 Glacier touch up paint from them in 07. Description is: "ACRYLIC ENAMEL, FAST DRY, BLUE, EQUAL TO PPG MAE, 12OZ SPRAY" Not cheap, About $30 with shipping.

They have a field where you enter OEM code.

On Eleganza beige, stock code Centauri enamel was a perfect match to the OEM Imron once it was buffed out free of oxidation. No custom blending needed. I would suspect same for PB green. I recently tried some Zaino All in one cleaner wax on 'dead' Imron and it came back perfectly glossy even though the Zaino is a show car polish with only mild abrasive properties for already shiny vehicles. Amazing.

Sorry...Actually 'cleaner polish' as there is no wax in Zaino.

On old factory 70's paint, Mothers mag and aluminum polish does wonders. Do a small section at a time (1'). Have used it on several projects over the years.

It only works on old single-stage factory paint though.

I know that and have polished my coach before with good results. It is amazing how good that old Imron paint can look. What I am looking for is to touch up the places where the paint is chipped and possibly remove the faded decals and paint on new stripes. I saw a few painted on Palm Beach stripes at Branson that looked pretty good. Later, when I have more cash, I'll get a total paint job. At least that is what I am thinking about now. My long term plans keep changing.

Yes, paint codes do you no good, the single stage Emron paint fades because of the pigment on the surface of the finish.  As someone said, a paint mixing store can computer match the color the paint is now to give you touch up paint.  Many NAPS stores can package the custom blended paint into a spray can.

Good luck,

I just had a quart of Frosted Mint made from the paint number at the local Sherwin Williams automotive paint store. It matches perfectly. I have no desire to repaint now.
