Our GMCWS rally at Coos Bay, Oregon the week of October 10th, 2016 has
about 120 pre-registered so far. It is a 5 club rally, and that number
might float up or down a bit in the next few days. There seems to always be
a flurry of activity in registrations a few days before the event. Good
numbers for both events. Should be a great event in both cases. Go if you
can. Meet lots of people, eat and drink too much, see vendors, get lots of
ideas, make new friends, put faces and voices to those Internet members.
Use those coaches, that is what they are for.

Thanks for that encouragement, Jim. Bob and I are standing by a few hours
from Mansfield in our SOB. Will get to Int'l 9-28.

That Coos Bay meet has been on our bucket list for at least five years, but
we just haven't been able to get there. I imagine there are quite few
folks out West who feel the same way about Int'l.

Our GMC, "The Roadhouse" is at home, needing some TLC. Would rather be in
it.

All the best for two fun, informative, fulfilling (grin) times of sharing
and fellowship for GMCers.

The Biggest GMCMI Conventions were in fall of 1998 and spring of 1999 with the number right at 400+ coaches. We were at the spring rally at Myrtle Beach, SC. It was our first GMCMI rally and coach as far as the eye could see.

Need to make a correction here, I went back and look at the numbers and the fall 1998 convention in NC was 396 coaches and 274 at the spring 1999 convention. The mind fades sometimes.

Still more than these days. As the coaches and their owners and people who
support and maintain them age, we need to be ever vigilant to recruit
younger participants to our ranks. Very necessary for us to perpetuate the
GMC family. Drive them, that is why they were made in the first place. If
they collect a few stone chips, that's just the way it is. I have been a
hot rodder since 1955. Too many of them to mention here. With two
exceptions, they were all drivers. Many never got beyond the primer paint
stage, but they still got driven and enjoyed. I absolutely hate to see a
big convoy carrier unloading show cars. Cars as art, to me have little
value. Same with GMCs. 400 miles to a rally is a short drive for us in the
western states. Some of ours are 3 days travel one way. But, Rocky
Mountains after mid October is risky business. So, north and south work
well because most of our population is clustered around Interstate 5. Some
of you guys dread earthquakes and volcanic eruptions just as we out here
dread humidity, tornadoes, and insects, as well as oppressive heat. We try
to sneak east in the spring and winter.

according to Swoodoo,

https://www.swoodoo.com/flights/AMS-CLE,CMH,CAK/2016-09-29/2016-10-06

it is less than 600EUR for a round-trip ticket. I am sure, quite a few
attendees spend more on fuel to get there ;)

Peer,

You are absolutly right. And in fact the idea of trying to attend one of the rallys is still on my mind.
But then I have to rent SOB rental, GMC rentals are not availlible I think so..... Or do you rent yours ? :)
Still doable, and for this rally and perhaps the one on the west coast, they seem to me the biggest events in the USA GMC Community.
But as said, it is on my bucketlist.

As I told before I am retired, but my wife still works, so planning our vacation is sometimes difficult on how and when she can get it.

BTW. Did you ever had the chance of attending one?
I think it will be a great expirience and wish all attendees a very nice time.

Dan,

John Sharpe and I have attended a fair few GMCMI, GMCWS, and GMC Dixielander rallies without a coach. We do this because of time
constraints / costs.

We fly to the nearest large city, rent a car, and stay in a motel and I would suggest you do the same.

BTW in my opinion the "size" of the convention / rally is not that important; you will be welcomed at any of them. Yes, if there are
more GMC's at an event you will get to see more of the various models and modifications owners have made to them.

Regards,
Rob M.

At EVERY GMCMI rally I've attended, there have always been a few folks who, for any number of reasons, did not bring a coach and stayed in Motels. I
have done this myself when I had a coach problem at the last minute.

No problem as far as the group goes but I'll admit the experience is not as good as staying at the rally and building more relationships.

Thanks, Peer, Rob, Kerry and Tom,

Very good advise. Will think it over.
.... from now on I will closely follow dates and infos on the various rallys and convincing my wife it will be a nice expirience combine it with our
next trip in the USA.

BTW: how long in the future are the rallydates fixed?
And were can I follow and find them all?
So I can start planning :)

Bye, Daniel

Actually, the largest was at the Tom Johnson Camping Center at Marion NC in the Fall of 1998 with 396 motorhomes. The spring 1999 at Myrtle Beach only had 274.
The second largest was at Myrtle Beach in spring of 1995 where we had 317.

And so I did convince her!

As I saw on the website of the GMCWS.org there was a rally this Spring in Pahrump, NV. 20-24 April 2017, I instantly started planning and getting
offers from our travelagent. And yes I contacted Nick and Donna, the GMCWS President and GMCWS Secretary, and we are welcome to attend :d Many
Thanks!!
We arrive Sunday 16 April, in Las Vegas, on a KLM/Delta Flight, with a layover in Atlanta, getting our rental MH on Monday and go to see some places
around LV, then to the rally and I am now in the proces filling and planning the rest of the weeks ... ...

I think ofcourse: Death Valley, Joshua Tree, perhaps San Diego, Phoenix-region, and I woulden't miss Sedona (we were there one time before, we loved
it, and as an exception the chairman of the Elk's let us stay the night with them, even invited us for the weekly membersdinner! Very nice people)
Grand Canyon, South-Rim, but now a Heliflight, Page, Zion, Valley of Fire (onesmore, also a place I would love to have nearby) and then back to LV,
for 2-3 days and perhaps attend a nice show (as we did sometime ago, the Cirque du Soleil: LOVE show, gorgues and brilliant)

If you have some insidertips for us, or about items to bring, please feel free to mention them.

We are very happy and looking forward to it!

So yandini triple output charger/inverter dies in cold of December... I did not catch it for 1 week. By then both batts were down to 9vdc...

Buy replacement in late dec 2016, put it in. both batts come up to 13v; but engine batt dies when trying to crank. Guess it died in that week of being down.

Decide to buy combiner too. Stuck it on 2 weeks ago finally. engine batt still won't crank engine over (boost sw gets it cranking fine).

So figured I would buy an engine batt eventually... went out today and cranked - WTH?? engine batt is like new again???

Moral of the story is a short in a battery may clear in time?? Never saw this before in 40 yrs!!

Hi Mike,

This is not completely unheard of although sometimes it may take many years and is undoubtably dependent on battery chemistry and other environmental factors. As an interesting aside there are several examples of orbiting satellites which had been dead for decades that came back to life after their previously failed (shorted) battery banks eventually cleared their short circuit and went open-circuit and then allowed the vehicle’s solar arrays to once again power some of the vehicle's payloads for momentary amounts of time. The situation was generally confirmed when it was observed that when the satellite came in view of the sun - and with the proper orientation of the vehicle to the sun - that they began transmitting telemetry and then when they went into eclipse they went silent.

Considering you can get a new premium grade Group 78 battery on sale for $96 and $10 minimum for the old one, not worth keeping it. This type of
battery has been the death of many alternators or isolators. This will let you down at the worst possible time and could be dangerous. Once drained
flat they are on borrowed time. Farm and Fleet has Platinums on sale now and last week the Golds were on sale for about $10 less.
