I have been looking into getting things going with making the jump to
EFI this year with the coach. While looking into the Tunerpro software
I could not find anything in their FAQ that indicates if you can view
and edit bin files on your laptop WITHOUT being hooked up to any
hardware (ie the ECM). So my question = is it possible for me to
download the Tunerpro program & some different bin files and be able
to "play" with them just on the laptop to get better familiar with the
software and its capability? Everything I have read indicates that you
need to be connected to the vehicles ECM or some sort of secondary
hardware to use any of the software's functions.

Yes, you can use TunerPro without being hooked up to the ECM. I believe
the TunerPro RT, the one that asks for money, will, when hooked up to
the ECM, display some of the values from the ECM in real time. If you
do the EBL (dynamicefi.com) upgrade, you will not need this capability.
You can do what you want to do - just download the TunerPro software
then select a .bin to look at. TunerPro uses a mask file (called an XDF
file - .xdf file type) that must match the type of .bin you are looking
at. For example, if are looking at a .bin file for a 7747 ECM, then
that mask is $42 and you must use the 42.xdf mask file. These can be
downloaded from the tunerpro site.

Randy, I've been using the EBL_V31.XDF file. Is that not the correct one?

Thanks

Gary,

Yes, that is the correct one for the EBL based bin files. I wasn't sure
what spiffycar (sorry, don't know your name or can't remember) had
access to for bin files so was referencing the original 7747 as an
example. If he doesn't have the EBL he would not have access to the EBL
bins. So, for each different type of ECM, there is a corresponding and
matching .xdf mask file that needs to be used.

Randy (thinking there are a large number of .xdf files meaning a lot of
different ecms)

Basically as long as I can find bins and their appropriate definition/
mask files I will be able to at least view them in Tunerpro just on my
laptop.
So that means I will not be able to use any of the bins posted on the
wiki site without the mask file for the EBL ,correct?

Thanks for the info.

First, guys who are thinking about EBL, don't read this or panic over this.  Current EBL packages are all up to date and fine.  This only applies to early versions.  In fact some of the upgrades we made by BobR just for we GMC types.  He has been very responsive.

On to bins... actually you can't use the bins on the WiKi if you don't have WUD 2.2f running the EBL.  You cannot use TunerPro to edit the bins without the EBL_32.XDF (mask).   The mask is for Tuner Pro and the TunerPro with EBL_32.XDF edited file is what the current EBL/WUD software is expecting when flashing. I believe all the bins I uploaded used the new mask.  This change came about in late Spring, 2010, if I remember correctly.

WUD 2.2f is the latest version of the WUD, found in Help/About.    WUD 2.2f uses the EBL_32.XDF XDF file (mask) in TunerPro.

If you WUD is not 2.2f, I suggest writing to bobr and getting that taken care of first.  The switch from d to e was more involved and used a special program the re-programmed your EBL.  e to f only required a the XDF file as it was a tiny change for guys running 6K RPMs and most of us are not worried about that.  (Or if you are, you will soon have much bigger worries than the EBL.  *smile*    Once 2.2f is in place, you can get the XDF for TunerPro.
