Hi,

The issue has been closed here - http://code.google.com/p/gmarks/issues/detail?id=10&can=1

You can download the latest version later.

BTW, I am not in charge of this, I am just a user of gmark and make it
work for myself. :)

Cheers,
Jumper

Hi jumperchen,

I  looked at the link you shared where this has been resolved/updated, but I just see an .xpi file there. No instructions of what to do with it. I downloaded it and tried to open it but apparently I don't have the proper program to open it.

I'm confused. I thought GMarks automatically updated itself  through the FF interface. So if this is the update, why is it still shown on my FF extensions list as disabled and with the message that it is incompatible with FF5?

Also don't really understand what the UPC/mark thingie is for nor the line that begins: Sha1 Checksum...

I'm not a programmer, just an average everyday person trying to keep my FF and add-ons up to date. Can you offer any further help?

Thank you.

The latest version works fine for me in Firefox 5.

How did you get it to install/upgrade to your Extensions in FF5? I upgraded to FF5 and now GMarks won't upgrade, it just says it is incompatible with FF5. Sure wish I would have waited to upgrade to FF5... PITA this little glitch. Lesson learned I guess...

Yeah I think that's where I got the update from. Download the file then drag it onto Firefox for Firefox to run it and install the update. Works fine for me after this.

Actually... after install I logged in but it did not lg me in, I tried a few times, but then it did log me in OK, and I have not had that issue again.

Thanks, Jumper. I saw that page but I really don't know how to do that. Really dating myself but I'm old school (1981 PC-XT/DOS girl :) and I don't do "dragging" to install stuff. I always open up or run the file.

Exactly how do I drag that file "into my browser"? I mean do I have a small window of FF5 open overlaid on the desktop and then put the file on the desktop and drag it from there ? I can't think of any other way. And what would be/should be running in that browser window when I do that? What happens when I do that? Does FF5 automatically just recognize that a dragged "invader" has appeared inside it's personal window and begins doing its upgrade? Gives a certain confirmation or choice of action message or ??? It seems weird -- then again, I know the Mac folks do lots of dragging, just no Mac experience.

What I do to keep organized is I use a folder called DOWNLOADS and put everything into it. After downloading I go there, open or run the file and it installs (apparently because it's an .exe and not a .xpi). I keep a backup of the folder in case I need to reinstall then clean the folder out. So this is foreign to me, this .xpi dragging thing.

It just feels so strange. Can you explain more? I really appreciate your help. I am considered a "power" user w/lots of macro, scripts, wysiwyg web sites, database, spreadsheet construction experience, but I just have not a clue about this method of installation/upgrade and so it's just very perplexing. Maybe there is a good lower level reference article I could read that might help?

Thanks so much  :)

Double clicking didn't work for me so I tried dragging it in hoping firefox recognises the filetype, which it dis. Just give it a go and you'll probably answer most of your questions :)

Thanks, Amityweb. It worked. It was strange to me and I was recalcitrant but the .xpi prevailed. Thankfully :) So nice to have my GMarks back... Thank you to those who create and maintain these little goodies.
