Hello,

GMarks correctly shows my Google Bookmarks, but it seems unable to
make any changes to them:

- If I try to add a new bookmark, it just shows a warning that "There
was an error submitting the bookmark [complicated stuff] to Google".
Afterwards, the new bookmark is shown on the GMarks menu but not on
the Google Bookmarks webpage itself, and it disappears from the GMark
menu once I click refresh.

- When I try to edit or delete a bookmark, GMark pretends that
everything works alright, but no changes are propagated to Google.

Does anyone know what the reason might be?

Thanks,
-Nikolaus

If you log into a Google site, are you able to adjust the bookmarks
then?

You mean logging into Google and then editing the bookmarks with GMarks?
No, same problem.

But if I edit the bookmarks using Google's web interface, that of course
works perfectly.

FYI, I was able to somewhat reproduce, and somewhat resolve the issue.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start FF, log into a Google site
2. Refresh or GMarks to "log in" the addon (doesn't log in
automatically due to other bug)
3. Open a new tab to any other website
4. Close FF, when prompted, choose "Save and Quit" to remember your
current tabs
5. Reopen FF, GMarks appears to log in automatically
6. Try to delete/change bookmarks, nothing happens

I have a feeling that FF can somehow cache the state of GMarks to make
it appear logged in, but in reality you're not logged in due to the
authentication bug (http://groups.google.com/group/gmarks/
browse_thread/thread/83647f15935df1a0?hl=en)

To get myself to a state where I could delete/change bookmarks,
starting with the above scenario, I did the following:

1. Log into a Google site
2. Refresh GMarks from the menu

Even when I did this, I had some weird functionality (e.g. I tried
deleting two test bookmarks, but they didn't immediately delete from
the toolbar. When I refreshed GMarks, only 1 of the two deleted
bookmarks were gone, but I was then able to delete the remaining
bookmark and it was immediately removed from the toolbar and GMarks
window, as expected).

Not sure if this gets you exactly what you need, but hopefully it
gives you some things to try.

Regards,
Danny

Nope, still does not work at all.

Weird. Some additional questions to help you debug...

1. Do you have any special characters in your label names?
2. Have you tried uninstalling/reinstalling GMarks?
3. Or clearing cache/cookies?
4. Does adding bookmarks using Google's website work without any
problems?

No, not at all. I started with completely empty bookmarks and then added
some test bookmarks with labels test, foo and bar.

No.

Neither.

Yes, it does.

However, I after much googling I finally found a trick that made it
work: After I enabled "Accept Third-party cookies" in the Firefox
options, GMark works perfectly.

Unfortunately I'd rather not enable this option, and I also don't quite
understand why GMarks would need it to be activated. Anyone an idea?
