Hi,

All i want to do is click on the map and a marker will appear. Yet
this isn't an easy thing to do.

I used javascript events borrowed from another website (I have to
search for this code again as I moved to a different method of an
inplace draggable marker to use as the 'new' point to be tied to some
data for persistence), and that responded to a click event but the
marker would then appear at a somewhat random offset on the map.

None of the examples show this. All the markers are already in place.

Being able to do this in a single call to update the backing bean and
create a new object that will be rendered as an m:marker I see as
being the best way, a server side map event.

GMaps4JSF provides client side event handler component, I wish it can help you:

:) all they do is affect what is already served from the backend.

gmaps has its read operations down fine. Its the write ops and
defining the api for that
that can make this project real world.
