Today I took the bus into Honolulu, where I walked around for a bit
and had some lunch. Before doing that, I had to stop at an ATM and
get some paper money. American money is ugly and boring, and it rips
really easily. (NZ and Australian currency is basically plastic, so
it's waterproof and very hard to tear.) Speaking of money, I have to
keep reminding myself that when I see a price of, say, $10, I can no
longer make the excuse that it's really cheaper than that because of
the favorable USD exchange rate, since now all the prices are back in
US dollars.
In addition to the fact that people were driving on the right side of
the road (which, as I suspected, is taking some getting used to, since
I finally started getting used to drivers being on the other side), I
knew I was back in this country because of the sheer density of
Starbucks.
In case you want to feel the exact reverse of schadenfreude (which
would be sadness at someone else's good fortune, I guess), feel free
to go to http://www.wunderground.com/US/HI/Kaneohe.html and see what
the weather's like here.
