We did some hill-to-hill ziplines and then took various interesting
modes of transportaion back to San Pedro. (By "interesting" I mean
"overcrowded and dangerous". The first was a van that had something
like 25 people packed into it, the second was the back of a pickup
truck.) I'm hoping to replace most of the ones I took today with
similar pictures some of the other people on the trip took, so I
suppose it's not too huge a loss.
I finished my week of Spanish classes and decided not to take another
week. Instead, I think I'm going to go back to San Cristóbal (in
Mexico) this week and start looking for a job there. I kind of feel
like maybe starting to be a little bit "productive" with my life. I
never thought I'd say such a thing, but having held no job for over a
year, or done anything other than my class in Mexico and the one I
just took here that even required me to get up at a particular hour
for any length of time, I think perhaps I'm ready for a bit of a
change. :-)
I'm not exactly sure about the specifics of getting back to SC, but
I'm relatively sure I'm going to take a bus on Monday from here to
Xela, and then either go by bus or shuttle from there back to Mexico
on Tuesday or Wednesday. (I had been thinking of a volcano hike or
something here, but as exhausted as I was after a bit of uphill
walking during the excursion today, I think maybe I'm too out of
hiking practice for something that ambitious. So the only things left
I "have" to do here are swimming a bit and kayaking a bit on the lake
I've been right next to for the past week. I can and probably will do
both of those things tomorrow, along with a fair deal of sitting
around doing nothing.)
I know this has been a pretty long update, but just think: once I get
a job, I won't be travelling any more, so I won't have much reason to
send emails to this list very regularly. So I'm sure you can put up
with this and maybe one more longish email before they dry up.
