I quite like Mérida, and could potentially see myself looking for a
teaching job here. (Actually, I met a guy, who's a receptionist at
another hostel, who said he knows several Americans teaching English
here. He told me to contact him if I do decide to return and teach,
and he'd put me into contact with some of them.) But I want to see a
bit more of Mexico before starting my job search in earnest.
I met up a couple times with Adriana, who I found through
CouchSurfing.com (http://www.couchsurfing.com/adhuvi), and she gave
some good advice on other places to go in Mexico. (Mexico City during
Semana Santa, for instance, because the people clear out and the
pollution drops dramatically, but all the museums and such are still
open.) If I'd arrived in Merida a day or two earlier, I might have
decided to spend a couple nights in a hammock in her apartment, but
her weekday schedule was such that I would have needed to be out and
about for most of the day. So I decided instead to just stay on at
the hostel, so I could return any time and drop stuff off or take a
nap or whatever.
Catherine (from CELTA) emailed me earlier this week that she was
thinking of going to Campeche this weekend, so if I see her there it
will be nice. I'm probably going to stay at least through Sunday,
because I don't want to be travelling on Independence Day (Saturday)
and Friday seems a bit soon to leave Campeche, seeing as I'll only get
there this afternoon.
