Hi Blair,

I am one of the many users who really appreciates the GmailDelaySend script you've made available, as a stopgap to this missing functionality in Gmail (for those of us accustomed to it from previous lives with Outlook).

I must admit that I haven't made use of the script for some time now, which is why I was a bit surprised to receive daily e-mails from Google for the past week, saying that the script has used too much computer time for one day. I double-checked my drafts, and don't see any that would be triggering the script (e.g. - no @8am or similar bits at the top of my drafts). Any idea what might've started triggering these errors, out of the blue?

Many thanks in advance for your time, and any ideas you might have with respect to the above,

Josh

Hey guys,

I've received similar emails from a few users in the past week. My suspicion is that Apps Script has started enforcing a new quota which you are hitting.  Remember that even if you are not using the script it's still running, checking to see if you do have an email to send. With that in mind some things to try:
  • Each time the script runs it needs to check all the draft emails that you have. If you have configured the script to run w/o labels and you have a lot of drafts (eg. hundreds or more) this could take a lot of "computer time". Configuring the script to use labels might help.
  • Reduce the trigger time (eg. from every 1 minute to every 5, or 5 to 10 etc).
If you give these a try and they do (or don't) help, could you post back to help other users?

Thanks!
-Blair

Hi Blair,

Thanks for the timely response! I didn't know that I had the script configured to run without labels (I think maybe it is the default)? So I have switched that back on.

I only have 14 drafts, which I have had for months now, so am not sure what would be making Google's Apps Script unhappy. Likely a new quota, per your suspicion. In any case, I have also changed the trigger time from 5 minutes to 10 minutes.

I'll see whether I continue to get the 'too much computer time' e-mail again tomorrow, and will post back here to let you and other GmailDelaySend users know the outcome.

Cheers,

Josh
