In my contacts list I have given my contacts names. I want these names
to be displayed in my inbox instead of their email addresses. But when
I receive new emails from these people, their email address is still
displayed and NOT their name.

Can I change this?

when you receive it they have choosen how they want to be listed and
that is their choice. Some like me do not like to have our names listed
with our email address.

That is correct. I just tested this by editing a name in Contacts, and
having that contact send me an email. Regardless of what *I* set it to
in Gmail Contacts, the sender's name appears in the Inbox as what the
sender defined it. Extending that logic, if a sender does not include
his name with his email address, then you will only see the email
address. I suggest you encourage your senders to update their settings
to include their names if they want to... :-)

yes and some people are trying to give you a hint when they send you
emails that they do not want you putting that name on the emails they
get from you, and you aren't getting the hint, otherwise they would
return emails to you with that name included as well. HINT! HINT!

All the people *I* know -- not techie types -- who send me mail without a personal name, either can't (for example, AOL users), or don't know how / haven't bothered to learn to add one. I've never encountered someone who didn't want to show some sort of personal name.

Jim, Have tried everything possible to get Gmail notifier to work.
Disabled antivirus and internet security. Downloaded GMail notifier,
installed, went to sound & audio devices, clicked on sound tab, clicked
new mail notification, ok. I'm a 76 yr old compuer novice. Using
windows XP, IE6 and a dsl connection.
You sound like a real tech genius. Can you help me?
