Some messages (like coupons and the like) have an expiration date
associated with them. It would be lovely to be able to set an
expiration on email messages of this nature to delete after a user-
specified expiration date. Obviously, customizability should come into
play - for example, have the option to archive, label or delete upon
message expiration.

For what its worth,

I may be missing something here, but what would be the point of setting an expiration date on a message?  Online coupons have expiration dates because after that date, the website stops accepting them.  There are infinite ways for someone to stop a message from being deleted on a certain day...

I got the impression that she was asking about the recipient being
able to set an expiration date, not the sender.

Ditto here... And I am not sure if i would want a feature that would
allow my message to "auto destruct"...

That is what I meant. Example: I receive a coupon to a store in my
inbox. In the email, the coupon expires on 12/31/2008. I would label
it as a "coupon" (or whatever) and archive it for future reference.
However, I hate going through old email uneccesarily. This wouldn't be
an email to save past 12/31/2008. So, I would set it to expire and
trash (or relabel as "expired") on a date that I would specify... say
1/1/2009 in this case. Hope that helps clarify.
FYI - There is a feature like this in Outlook. So, it isn't unheard
of.

I would like to know how that's done in outlook. I use flags and
notification, but not the message auto delete/archiving feature.

Also, if u have a need of tracking such coupons, then perhaps you can
use pop3 and download all emails to outlook.

I would create an event to my Google Calendar right from the actions
drop-down.
And put a reminder on that event for the desired date.

Miguel.
