Hi - is there any way to turn off the auto spell check-as-you-type
feature? My wife hates the red line. Thanks!

This is how mine works. When you want it on, go the arrow on the right side  of the spell check box, click that, a drop down menu arrives, selections are for the language or auto fix. Ive never used mine in the on position while typing, when im finished i click the little arrow, and select auto fix.  It corrects everything needed, has the little red line. Then, it has a faint "stop" over the entire box, I just click it. I just now tried mine while typing, i mispelled ,and a square box came up pointing to my incorrect word, and i couldnt continue typing. There was the option on the box to stop spell check. I dont know if your settings are somehow different or what. The only time i have a red line is when i click the box to check a document for spelling when i am finished typing. I am using i.e./google toolbar. Maybe you have firefox and its different?  Try to click the box to see if it will give you an option. That has to be annoying.

The auto-spell check is a browser feature, not GMail.  If you are using Firefox, open up preferences, goto the Advanced tab and uncheck "Check my spelling as I type".  I don't use any other browser, so I can't help you if you are not using Firefox, but I'm sure looking around the preferences will help you.

Gmail doesn't do spell checking as you type. This is a browser
feature, likely from Firefox or the Google Toolbar. Look around in the
settings to find the way to turn it off.
