Hi Gmail Users,

So I have been using Gmail as a client for a while now, and I have decided to make the move and have Google manage all my email.
So I will be moving my "inbox" to the GAFYD inbox instead of my gmail inbox.

Thoughts on
- exporting the "lessons" priority inbox learnt
- exporting settings, like signature, labs, other stuff
- exporting / transferring contacts across
- exporting / transferring the emails/ labels

Most interested in how much "work" this will be, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

C

I did the same thing recently. My replies are inline.

I don't think there's a way. Maybe when you move the mail (see below)
anything under the priority label automatically gets learned, but
that's not advertised anywhere to my knowledge.

Also, unfortunately, no way that I know of.

That works out quite well. Just go to your contacts in the old
account, export as a CSV, and import them in the new account.

If you configure a desktop client to use IMAP to access both accounts,
you can copy the messages and labels to the new account. It may take a
very long time, depending on your history. I've had my Gmail account
since 2004 and have about 40,000 conversations. It took several hours
to download everything, then Thunderbird freaked out and died. I gave
restarting that process a try or two but eventually gave up. I got
maybe a couple months of email actually transferred that way.

A much easier solution that has the downside of losing your labels is
using the POP fetching feature of Gmail. In the old account, enable
POP with the "all mail" option, then in the new account configure it
to access the other one. This again will take a very long time to
complete, but you're not stuck with anything open on your computer
while it happens. This process went a lot smoother for me, but Gmail
did eventually choke on a message that was about 2 years old.
Searching around on the web, the only way to fix the problem is to
find and remove the offending conversation. I did that, but it got
stuck again eventually on something else. Overally, I got about 3
years of emails, which I was happy with.

Unsolicited thoughts, since I see you have an Android phone. You can
use your GAFYD account as your primary on your phone, but remember
that anything you purchased is associated with the original account.
There's currently no way to transfer app owernership to a new account.
