I previously used the now defunct Gmail Notifier which placed an icon in the Windows tray and played a sound when an email arrived.
Recently I noticed that Gmail now has Notification working in Firefox. Notifications were activated in Gmail, however the notifications show up in a small window on the lower right, disappear very quickly, and play no sound--this does not work for me. Any way to change the behavior to get sound and place an icon in the tray?

Some websites, apps, and extensions, such as Google Calendar, can show notifications on your computer desktop. Google Chrome alerts you by default whenever a site wants permission to automatically show notifications.
When you receive a notification, you’ll see a message appear in the lower right corner of your computer screen and an icon appear in the notification area (also called the system tray) on Windows and the menu bar on Mac. Click on the icon to open the Chrome Notification Center to see older notifications that you have not dismissed.
