I guess you mean to search WITHIN attachments, because you can search FOR attachments already.  Use "has:attachment" or "filename:pdf"  to find e-mails with these types of attachments.

Please, Kevin, and all other group members who read this---make the
suggestion to Google for this feature. It is not yet on the list of
suggestions for which they offer a box to check, which means not
enough people have asked for it such that it is now being seriously
considered Since Google keeps this (attachment) data on their
servers, and since they emphasize "search, don't sort," it could be
something they would do-- it would put them out in front of Yahoo and
Microsoft in yet another way.

I think the "Better the message search functionality" option is along
the lines of that suggestion. I think everyone should check that box
and use the "I have a better idea" box at the bottom to spell out the
request for searching within the attachments. That is, if this is a
suggestion you like (I have others that are higher priority to me so I
suggest them each time.
