I use gmail both via a web browser and via Thunderbird (POP3).

If I add a contact via the web browser, how do I make that contact
appear in Thunderbird's Address Book?

If I add a contact via Thunderbird, how do I make that contact appear
in the web browser's Contacts list?

GMail does not have a mechanism for Contact syncing; but there is a Thunderbird plugin that should do the trick.  I can't recall the name right now, but it promises to sync your GMail contacts with your Thunderbird contacts.

Also... you may want to look at using IMAP instead of POP3... then you can mark something as read in either place, and it will update in the other place, and Thunderbird Folders = GMail labels.
