For me its mainly the fact that '@googlemail.com' is a mouthful and just
sounds too long
gmail.com is short and snappy.
I still LOVE gmail either way, I just wish I could send from @gmail.com

I guess that you only got the @gmail.com address because you IP is US in
this case..
I've got my Gmail account (even though its googlemail.com) I still always
have and always will refer to it as Gmail, the ONLY this I don't like is
the fact that I can't SEND from @gmail.com unless using a desktop email
client.. in which case I might as well not be using gmail.
I tried adding myad...@gmail.com as a different from account but Google
has already covered themseleves and stop you doing that.

I just think the Gmail logo looks better
Then tell people your email address is what...@gmail.com. Anything
sent to that will get to you. When you signed up since Google wasn't
able to use the gmail name in the UK you got a googlemail email
address. However signing up as googlemail also reserves the username
with gmail.com also. The two are interchangable and it doesn't matter
which on people email, it all goes to the same place.

it have been resolved in Septebmer 2009. It seems that users in the UK
can register for Gmail account again.
My email was registered as googlemail account. When I sign in, it
still displays as x...@googlemail.com. I would really like it to be
changed into x...@gmail.com.
How can I do this?
If the googlemail.com and gmail.com are interchangable in the
countries that do not have Gmail dispute, surely Google should provide
a means that user can decide which one to use/disply!!

Google tried to register the name worldwide in 2004.
They reached an (amicable) agreement with the company involved, and
that is why to this day applicants from those two areas (as defined by
their IP address (in geographic terms) will only be able to get an @
googlemail address. There can be no exceptions under the terms of the
agreement.
Yes, there were some who were allocated an @gmail address *before*
this agreement was reached, but they are the exception. And Fuzzy is
correct - there is no way to change the domain your account is
registered in.
As it happens, the two domains (gmail and googlemail) are both multi-
homed, so it makes no difference where and which you log into - which
just leaves the domain name. And since Google has seen fit to make the
domains synonymous, the only issue is when (on rare occasions) you
have to use your "real" address to authenticate.
If you add the @gmail version of your address into the 'Other Accounts
you own' (under Settings > Accounts and Import) then you can set that
as your default outgoing address (for Reply to purposes).
And beware of closing the @googlemail account in the expectation of
opening an @gmail account of the same name. You won't be able to get
it! Whether anyone likes it or not, Google have made it perfectly
plain that they will NOT re-issue any Usernames. It's a protection
against Identity theft.

Andrew's question is related to the post by clarkh indicating that it had been resolved in the UK; implying that they could now register with a gmail.com ID. The Help Center searches I just completed talked about the problem in Germany still, but made no mention of the UK issue, which they previously did. clarkh may be right, but I can find nothing to support, or refute, what he says.
