I am receiving approximately 20 messages per day saying that messages
that I have sent have not been able to be delivered for various
reasons, etc. Problem is, I am not sending any messages. I have only
3 addresses that I use with this account. Why am I getting these
messages when I know I have not sent any messages to the addresses
specified?

there was an older problem that people with dots in their username like you would get the email from users who had the same username but without the dot, and while it has been said google fixed that issue...I suppose it's possible someone had grabbed your username without the dot before the issue got fixed and thus this is happening, another possibility is just that someone is sending out junk and is using your email address for the spoof email address their email is coming from...

Might be that you have a program/spyware/zoombie running on your
computer sending them "for" you on behalf of someone sending SPAM?

(Do you run on MS Windows ;-)

It's likely that a spammer is "spoofing" your address and using a sort of dictionary attack. Basically, that just means that they're making it seem like their spam is coming from you and when they send to an email address which doesn't really exist, the error message gets sent to you.

There was never a problem like this. Just a mistaken belief that this
was possible.

This one is likely.

I have never had this problem with Gmail, but I did with MSN mail.  It turned out had had a virus.

I was, at one time, receiving other David Jackson's emails. I once was
even given one of the guys credit card number with a confirmation
email. I called him up and alerted him as to what was going on. I
suppose I could have been on a Capitol One commercial had I been of
that mind set with all his credit card info.

I dont think it is a virus as I scanned my home computer and here at
work I dont think its possible with all the security set up. I rarely
if ever use gmail at home only at work. I think maybe someone is
sending junk using my email address. How can I fix this other than
just starting a new gmail account and ditching this one? I hate losing
my original email address but it is looking more like that is what I'll
have to do. I can't get any info from google on how to remedy this.

It's quite possible that someone misentered their email address on a form.

I do not believe that there is or ever was a bug where the dots in a
Gmail address were ignored.

Because they can't. They can't stop anyone from using your address as
a from address when sending from other servers. Just like I can put
your address as a from address on an envelope *I* send.

Moving to another account will only temporarily get you away from the
problem, as they can begin it again.

The only solution is for all ISPs to work together to prevent spoofed
source addresses, which is a near impossibility since it's a lot of
work, with little financial benefit, and some ISPs actually get a
profit from the spammers, so they wouldn't play along anyway.

I have had this happen to me with some of my email addresses, as
already mentioned by someone else this is likely to be some spammer
using your email as their 'from' address, I wouldn't worry too much
about it.
