SMS Text Messaging in GMAIL

Hi,

I wanted to start using the SMS text messaging functionality in
GMAIL. I read the GMAIL blog article on how to set this update going
through settings --- labs --- enable Text Messaging, etc. However, I
am not able to find this as an option to enable in the labs section.

Is there something I need to do before these steps to enable this
functionality?

Judging from the official Labs' groups, no.  The lab was removed and many people are complaining.  Those groups would be the only place to make Google aware of the concern for it.
