Are you using an email program that runs on your computer? I use
Gmail's web interface and I don't have a "bin/trash".

On the web interface, I think the only way a message ends up in Trash,
is if you put it there, or if you have a Filter that puts it there.

Emails sent to different recipients are not considered duplicates.

If messages are actual duplicates, Gmail eliminates the extras, not by
moving them to your Trash folder but by making them totally disappear.
You never see them.

If you actually sent them (as opposed to hitting a Delete button by
accident), I would think so.

They "appear" in your Sent Mail folder because they are part of the
same conversation with the messages you sent. If you separated them
(by turning conversation view off), you would find that the replies
are not actually in Sent Mail. For what it's worth.

Thanks very much, Andy. There's an email program that came with Windows 8, on the start page. I don't access my email via that, though. I access them through my browser. The mails must've sent alright, as I just received another reply to a binned one.

Anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time.

Trevor,

Regarding the "most of the 15 sent mails" being in your trash, was that only for the emails for which you received replies?  Did you delete those replies?

If so, then the entire email conversation, which includes the emails you sent to those people whose replies you deleted, will "appear" when looking in your trash because they're part of the same conversation.  If you turn conversation view off, perhaps just the email replies that you deleted will show there.  Come to think of it though, if you had conversation view on when you deleted replies then you probably deleted the entire conversation.

Or, if you didn't delete those replies, then this attempt to explain what you're seeing is not applicable.

Hi guys,

I sent about 15 similar/identical mails to 15 separate recipients. I received some replies. Most of the 15 sent mails, however, are in my bin/trash, not my sent mail folder, I noticed a couple of days later.

Hi Kenneth,

Thanks for replying. The emails in my trash were mainly ones that had received no replies. A couple of them received replies. I didn't delete any replies, and my filters aren't set to delete any messages except those from a few certain addresses (nothing to do with the 15 addresses I was sending to)

I turned conversation view off there (and applied it, of course), but that made no difference. I am convinced that the messages sent, at least, as I received another reply from one of the binned-message recipients. So, I'm still flummoxed, but not hugely concerned now.

Thanks a million,

T

Where did your "bin/trash" come from?

I have no such folder. My trash is named simply "Trash".

(Do others have a "bin/trash" in their versions of Gmail?)

I believe the British version is labelled "Bin"... not sure about other languages.

No bin/trash here.  It really sounds like the OP has at one time connected to their Gmail inbox with either a POP or IMAP client which created that folder.  I am not sure why Gmail is using that folder to store Trash items though.

The folder is labelled "bin" on the left (ie. under inbox and all the others), though, when I click into it. the search bar says "in: trash". Either way, it's the trash folder where unwanted emails go, usually deleted by me or by my filter settings (though not in the case of these emails)

Thanks, guys
