I get the typical Mail Delivery Subsystem email when an email address doesn't work, but is there a way to tell it not to try more than once? It's annoying to get more than one bounce back email about a failed email address.

The standard is one bounce per attempted e-mail.  If you continue to try to send to that address, you'll continue to get bounces.  If there is a mail slowdown, one server tells the other to "back off", then you might get multiple bounces for a single message.
