We have lots of gmail distribution lists but they are hard to manage.  Each distro list has several columns.  The first column is titled "Name" but it displays the email address, not the person's name.  The second column is titled "email" and it lists the email address again.

It would be helpful to have the name in the first column not the email listed twice.  Is there a way to force Gmail to display the person's name associated with the email address?  We have lots of addresses that don't have a name embedded in the email address.  (Fictitious example: John Doe = love...@yahoo.com).  It is very hard to keep these email addresses up to date because we have to do detective work to figure out who this email address belongs to.

Any ideas?  Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

Eric

What are you using to create your distribution lists?

If you were using Gmail Contacts, I don't think you'd have an issue.  As a test, I added you to my Gmail Contacts just now by hovering the mouse over your email address from your email and then clicking on Contact Info.  Your name was saved in the correct first and last name fields and your email was saved successfully.  Even your position and organization were saved. From Gmail Contacts, I can then select to add or remove you from different Contact Groups or distribution lists that I've created.

Kenneth,

Clarification: We have many email groups used by various email users in our domain.  Our main distribution list we use for announcements has maybe 500 recipients.  Is Google Contacts intended for a single user, or can I create contact lists that can be used by multiple users in the same domain?

Kenneth,

Thanks for your response.  I will figure out how we have been creating our groups.  Apparently we are not doing this correctly.
