Glad to see you got it sorted. As an aside 2 step verification doesn't require an app specific password, they are 2 separate things.

After a couple of hours of beating my head against the wall, I found the problem. My new password required me to put in a symbol which wasn't available on the virtual alphanumenic keyboard, but is available on the "symbol" keyboard. That change to the "symbol" keyboard apparently made my new password invalid on the phone. Eliminating that one symbol and changing to one which is available on the alphanumeric keyboard, solved the problem. All is well.Bill

That went well, in the sense that my Gmail and other Google apps work normally on my desktop computer. But I can't receive email on my phone any more. When I try to sign in to the phone's Gmail, I get the "wrong password" error. When I type in the new password, I **still** get "wrong password.
