Autocomplete types the email addresses for me, and using Gmail, I have
no problem whatsoever opening attachments. Sorry. You're on your own.

What do you mean you can't open attachments?

If you want to send email to someone on your contact list, click on contacts. If you don't see  the person your are writing to, click on all contacts.  Locate the person's name and fill in the box with a check mark. Then click on the compose link. The address will be filled in for you.

Most of the time I have trouble with attachments, too.  especially if it is an e-card with music.

What web browser are you using? Gmail supports Firefox, IE, Safari
etc. Find a full list at
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=6557&topic=1523 I
also have trouble with the music on e-cards, but since I find that
music annoying it doesn't worry me. I think Yahoo! Mail has that
problem too. Overall I don't have any serious trouble using Gmail with
Mozilla firefox so if you are not using it I suggest you give it a go.
Also try clearing your browsers cache.

However, once you have already clicked on Compose not from the Contacts
view, and perhaps entered at least partially the text of your message,
it would be nice if you could somehow access your contact list from
there.

when I first imported my contacts the auto type didnt work. I closed
it and reopened it and it finally worked.
