You should complain to Google about it. (We in this forum are not
Google. They don't know you are not satisfied.)

In my Gmail account, I have a choice to "Send Feedback" in the gear
icon button near the upper right of my Gmail screen. I think not
everyone has that option, but if you do, you should use it.

The new mail feature makes no sense to me either.  Change for change's sake.  Depressing to think that somebody is going to win an award for this "improvement."

Thanks for the suggestion. The route open to you is not open for me.  I used a different route though, and registered my grumble.

Just turn on keyboard shortcuts, and press Shift-C to automatically
compose in a popped-out window. Alternatively, hold down Shift when
clicking on Compose.

Both of the above also work for Reply and Forward.
