Hi Gmail users,

In case I make an error in the text of my email or I forget to cc another party I want to make it clear to the receivers that I am sending them  an amended version of the last email.   How do I do that?

Thank you
cartier.

Put in the body something that says just that.

Hello Fuzzy, and whoever is reading this,

Thanks for answering Fuzzy. But I meant what do I click in order
for the software to do that for me. I mean just like there is "reply"
and Forward" that tells the receipient what the email is. or let's
say when you print something at the bottom of the page there is the
date of when the print was made and which url it is from, instead of
the person who printed it having to do it. Thanks.

There is nothing like that in any mail program I've ever used.

Cartier,

You want something that automatically indicates that you sent an email to
more people, or amended the original email.

If you do that by using a Reply, Reply-All, or a Forward, then unless you
alter it, the subject line will now include Re: or Fwd: at the beginning.
That should be a hint that this message differs in some way from the one
that didn't have the Re: or Fwd: in it.

That's about the closest thing to an automatic indication.

If you keep copies in your "sent" mail.....just go in there and resend the "copy" to the one you left out.  They'll then see all the other recipients you ent the mail to, if that's what you want.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for your responses. Okay, I am using the library computers so
I am limited time wise. Why is it when using the "reply" like I am
doing now to reply to you that the "save", (or "saved" every few
minute? or so) that is usually there when composing a letter
ordinarilly between "send" and "discard" at the bottom and top does
not exist? Doesn't it mean having to restart the whole letter if
suddenly you need to stop?

I can't thank you enough for your responses. They are so clear.
cartier.

When you say "does not exist", what do you mean by that?  It's not there, or you can not click it?  I just viewed this reply in the Old Version, the New Version, and the HTML Version, and there is a Save Now button in all three.  If you mean that you can not click it, that just means that GMail has autosaved your email and you haven't made any changes.  As soon as you start typing again though, the grayed out button will become "pressable" again because now you have something new to save.  The same thing will happen if you click Save Now yourself.  GMail will save a draft of what you are typing, and not allow you to save again until you make some sort of change.  It's essentially the same as how desktop programs do not allow you to save without making a change.

Once an email has been saved, it will remain in your drafts area until you send it (even if the browser window closes in between saves).

Nick,

Thank you. But I do mean it is not there. There is only "Send" and
Discard". The third button that is supposed to be between the two is
not there. I wish there was some way of showing this to you while I
am writing. I thought it was some glitch, but this is the third time
it has happened.

Thanks again.

Do you know what browser the library is using?

Usually it's a branded Internet Explorer, but it's possible that they
have something weird. It could also be an older version that isn't
fully supported (although I would think that "save" would still be
there...).

Ryan,

Thanks for your answer. What does "branded Internet Explorer" mean?
And when you say "something weird", what do you mean exactly? By he
way I agree about "although I would think "save" would still be
there"), even if I know less than nothing about the subject. It seems
such a basic thing. I have so much I need to learn fast.

I don't know how to find out what the computer of any given place that
I am using is using? In other words, what do I click to see if it is
IE 6 or 7 or 8 or if it is something completely different? I will
find out from the library staff but I try not to need them for things
I can find out by clicking this or that.

Do you know which YOU-TUBE or anything similar that can help me see
how things are done? Ijust came accross one the other day but it
didn't address what I am looking for right now. I am still going to
need the group. I need to see how to put everything into the usb in
one shot. I have different clients and big load of emails, it would
take forever if I do it mechanically. I want to use the system that
would be used by someone who is in an emergency.

Thanks again Ryan. I appreciate it.

If you search for "what browser am I using" on Google you'll get a
bunch of sites which will automatically identify the browser you're
using. http://igx.net/whatami.html is a good amount of information,
some of the other ones are a little more straight to the point.

By "something weird," I meant a browser that isn't at all commonly
used by people. Branded Internet Explorer is simply the normal Windows
browser with the library's logo and name stuck into it (like, in the
title bar and the little loading/busy icon, etc).

You can also click on Help on Internet Explorer's title bar, then About
Internet Explorer, and it will show you the version. Most Microsoft
products do that.

Firefox and Opera (two other web browsers) also use the same Help ... About
... method for displaying the version of the program.

Ryan and Andrew,

Thank you both so much. If you have the info re. the how to put
everything into my usb ( which I haven't decided on getting yet) by
mechanically I meant putting inbox contents into the folders first and
then from folders into the floppy/usb first kind of thing. Do you
have the site that shows us how to perform that task?

Thanks again.
