Could someone please tell me why, when I copy a joke, with pictures
and try to paste it in this email system it won't show?

Can I resolve this myself?

Please advise.

Sir,
You shouldn't be trying to Copy such a message - try Forwarding it
instead.
At the bottom of the incoming message are the options to Reply, Reply
to All, and Forward. Choose the latter.
[You really need to be in Rich Text mode first though!]

In everything I have read, forwarding a message is bad email mannors.

Regardless, I don't want to send everyones email address to the next recipients who do not need to know the previous recipients email address'.

I want to know how to copy and paste here, to send "cleaned up" and crisp emails.

Thanks

Copy and paste is iffy in any email, especially when formatting or pictures are involved. Learning to froward properly is more reliable. it is not necessary, when forwarding, to reveal everyone's email address to the next recipients (and by the way, it is admirable that you are thinking about this). All that is necessary is to go through and delete the extraneous material - the previous email addresses, and while you are at it, all those extra headers that build up when previous emailers don't delete anything.
In Gmail, there is another way. If you have Gmail Labs enabled, there is one called "Quote selected text" which allows you to highlight a portion of an email and when you reply only that portion is quoted. It doesn't say in the description of the Lab feature, but it also works when forwarding. (It is what I used to lmit what I quoted of your email below.)
Copy and paste works a little more reliably in a desktop email client (a program like Outlook Express, Eudora, or Thunderbird). It still won't always carry pictures over though.

Although I know how to forward properly by deleting I was trying to learn the easier way?as i know it? thanks for the info.i'll try it???...although copy and paste (which is MUCH easier) works most times  in other venues e.g. yahoo as to copying or pasting into or out of yahoo, that are Not desktop? Thats curious  Thanks again for the info

Not necessarily. I've used Outlook Express and found it a pain in the neck
to paste pictures, even when it was set to use Rich formatting. The
pictures ended up as attached files and not properly placed within the
message. The same sometimes with formatted text; I usually need to go back
and fix (if not start over from scratch with) all the text formatting.

Far easier to just click Forward and then edit it down to what I want.

Perhaps Thunderbird works differently.

Thanks all.
Even I have been trying to find the best way to
send 'suitably trimmed' fwds.

The Labs route sounds good. Thanks, Sean.
You'd demonstrated it too!

That's what I meant by "a little more reliably"... A desktop client will work a bit better becasue the picture is on the same machine as the email, whereas with webmail that is not necessarily the case. Either way, s I described in my post, the process is unreliable and forwarding is the easier way to go (although it is not 100% reliable either).

This free program may help to clear up some of those messy forwards.
You might also want to try "inserting" pictures into OE instead of copy/paste.

I can. First, you need to go to "Settings" and make sure you have keyboard shortcuts enabled (I didn't until I started using this feature). Then, when replying to a message, select the portion you want to quote with your cursor, and hit the letter "r" on the keyboard. When forwarding, select the portion you want to quote with your cursor and hit the letter "f" on the keyboard.

with keyboard shortcuts turned on, you can just hit "?"

On the Settings tab, in mine is the third item down, it has:

Keyboard shortcuts:
Learn more

The "Learn more" is the link with more explanations about keyboard shortcuts. It is a feature that predates Labs.
