I downloaded the Firefox GMail notifier and it had a box to check that
said "Use GMail for mailto links on the internet". I checked the box
but when I click mailto links my outlook window still comes up.
Any suggestions?

Reset your computer.

I have the same problem in both IE and Firefox. The only way I've
figured out to get it back to gmail is:

1. Click on options in gmail notifier.
2. Uncheck the gmail mailto: box.
3. Click OK.
4. Click on options in gmail notifier again.
5. Check the gmail mailto: box.
6. Click OK.

That will work for a little while but always reverts back to my old
email program (Eudora).

I sent an email to Google about this over a month ago but didn't hear
anything back.
If anyone has a permanent fix, I'd love to hear it.

I have the same problem in IE on a Win XP Pro PC. It doesn't surprise
me though considering that I have MS Outlook 2003 Pro installed and
used to use it as my default email client.

What I'd really like to see is Gmail Notifier get added to the list of
available E-mail programs in Windows' Internet Options: Programs
screen.

I tried finding a registry option for this, but didn't find anything.
Anybody have any thoughts on how to do this?

here's another thing you can do: there's a firefox extension called
"WebMailCompose", which gives a right-click contextual menu option to
send email via gmail (or one of other email services you may have) when
you come upon an email address you want to send something to.

WebMailCompose is a great extension. Unfortunately, if you are also
using the Tabbrowser Extensions extension (which, in my opinion, is
the single most useful Firefox extension), then the combination of the
two breaks the "Sign out" link in Gmail (at least on Windows --
haven't checked it on any other OS).

This means you can't sign out of your Gmail account by left-clicking
the "Sign out" link. You *can* sign out by manually entering the URL,
https://gmail.google.com/gmail?logout, or by right-clicking on the
"Sign out" link and opening it in a new tab. I created a Gmail Signout
bookmarklet with the logout URL, to force the signout. It's not a
major issue, but it is annoying if you need to be able to access
multiple Gmail accounts from the same computer.

I've confirmed the validity of this bug with the author of
WebMailCompose -- he claims that it's a result of something in
Tabbrowser Extensions that he can't work around and requires a change
in Tabbrowser Extensions to correct. Unfortunately, the author of
Tabbrowser Extensions has not been as responsive to my attempts at
clarification (although he is Japanese and I have no way of knowing if
he reads English).

You can always try Tabbrowser Perferences instead of tabbrowser
Extensions. That doesn't have any problems with signing out of gmail.

Tabbrowser Preferences and Tabbrowser Extensions have entirely
different feature sets. Not comparable.

I've been using the 'GMailIt' bookmarklet. It just sits in your toolbar
and it's perfect for sending pages.

Have a look at

any of them work for you.
