Is there a way to have certain contacts setup to always send in plain text mode instead of rich text mode?

Thanks,
Jeff

There are certain mailing lists that I send to that I prefer to send the messages in Plain Text instead of HTML.  I was wondering if there was a way to set those contacts to always send in Plain Text when I put them in the To field instead of having to change the e-mail format type each time I send to them.  (I forget sometimes).  I know that I can change the e-mail to Plain Text while I am composing the e-mail, I was hoping there was a way to set it up per contact.  I can do that in Thunderbird.  I use both Thunderbird and the web interface for my e-mail.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff,
I don't think this is likely to happen anytime soon, as there are no links currently between 'Contacts' and any other parameters in the message composition.
I wouldn't say it'll never appear, but there would have to be quite a lot of additional work to Gmail to allow such. However, there are some very clever programmers out there and they're producing add-ons for Gmail all the time - perhaps one of them will come up with a way to do it!
It can occur when using an e-mail client program (which can create/hold such links) because the client deals with the finer points of message creation whereas the webmail interface is essentially quite 'stripped down' (for both speed and lite-ness(sic) purposes!).

None that I've ever heard of.

That may be. But that feature has been a function of some email
client programs, for years, so there is at least the possibility that
Google might add it if they see it as beneficial to enough users.
Nothing is impossible to them without a little bit of programming. If
I'm not mistaken, MS Outlook had that ability, 15 or 20 or more years
ago.

Personally, I'd suggest using an email client program if you need that
capability.

Some of us might disagree with that observation. Both the fact that
Gmail's web interface is stripped down (I think it was originally, but
they seem to have poured a LOT of development work into it), and about
the results of same.

On the GMail suggestion page there is a line item for "Improved Contact List Functionality" (or something very similar).  I would propose that you click that suggestion link, and potentially use the "I have a better idea" link at the bottom to spell out your request to Google.  The only way I've seen people's ideas implemented is when they've actually been suggested.

Andy, there's no point in us arguing. Your view is just as valid as mine.
Whether Google view it as beneficial or not, it will require some considerable additional programming. If in the meantime some enterprising programmer comes up with it, then so much the better. But I still say there are currently no links existing between Contacts and Compose to provide the feature that Jeff wants now
Let's just wait another 12 months ... and see whether it has appeared at that stage. [My personal opinion is that it won't - that's all I'm saying.]

Of course, Lookout is an enhanced e-mail client, one that Micro$haft seem now to be slowly moving towards the business world rather than the domestic field!
Besides, I'd acknowledged that some e-mail client programs already had that capability ... but I doubt they did so more than 20 years ago -  pre 1992??
