Gmail uses the DHTML(Dynamic HTML)in its interface. It is
java-intensive. So it does not work on any browser that doesn't support
java.I have heard from some websites that google is planning to provide
an HTML interface for users who don't have java-enabled browsers like
the mobile phones having the mini-browsers. The mobile phones have
mini-browsers that don't use java. It is also going to provide XHTML
ineterface. It means people can download some scripts in their mobile
phones and access gmail's web interface without a browser. That's is
really cool. What do you think?

I Think thats the right way to go!
For example, i use Opera instead of Firefox, and because opera's cache
(i think), it isn't supported by gmail, so i need to run a separated
browser windows everytime i want to email someone:

PS: I dont use pop tough, because it does not organize as
conversations, does not 'label' emails, and those are my favorite
features in gmail.

Pankaj: Don't confuse Java (the full-fledged programming language that
requires a browser plugin) with Javascript (the Internet-only
scripting language that's supported by most modern browsers by
default). Gmail uses Javascript extensively, but it's reasonable to
assume that most users have it enabled on their browsers. It does not
use any Java, thankfully. As for an HTML-only interface, I believe
it's one of the things they're working on.
However, considering cellphones, now that Gmail offers POP access,
there's no need to use a less efficient browser interface to check
your emails via a cellphone.

Zerone: I believe Opera 7.60 is compatible with Gmail.

I hope they do a non-DHTML version... especially if it's in xHTML and CSS.

It would reatlly be "accessible" then.

well, it will be easy to determine what browser youre using...

& then customise the page / Have several 'templates' - to suit.
(of course, allow the user to over-ride the automated selection - If
they can still see it of course...)
