SMTP Cert Expired?

Hi folks,
I'm trying to send email from my desktop, but my email client keeps
complaining that the SSL certificate expired at 12:58pm EST today. Is
anyone else experiencing this problem?

Yes. The Gmail team is aware of the problem and is working to fix it
as we speak.

According to that link it is now "fixed".
However, I'm still seeing the issue.
In case this helps an engineer, smtp.gmail.com resolves like this:
Non-authoritative answer:
smtp.gmail.com canonical name = gmail-smtp.l.google.com.
Name: gmail-smtp.l.google.com
Address: 209.85.147.109
Name: gmail-smtp.l.google.com
Address: 209.85.147.111

Hmm, I've just been finding other posts about this and it appears that
Google changed from Thawte to Equifax, I'm still looking into this to
confirm, but I'll update here when I do.

It is correct that they changed from Thawte to Equifax. I wonder if
you're failing to validate the CA cert and that is your failure.

Right, the fix for using smtp.gmail.com with ubuntu gutsy postfix is
this:
cat /etc/ssl/certs/Equifax_Secure_CA.pem >> /etc/postfix/cacert.pem
this:
cat /etc/ssl/certs/Equifax_Secure_CA.pem >> /etc/postfix/cacert.pem
