I would like to set up labels and sub-labels. For example Holidays,
2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 with for example under 2006 Arizona,
Florida, New York.

Is it possible to do this and if so how.

Thanks

Dennis

So go and suggest!

You can apply multiple labels to your conversations. The search for
instances where both occur using: label:XYZ and label:ABC. It is a
little more tedious than just being able to click through the items in
the Labels menu. But that's the tradeoff for doing things the Google-
way: "Search don't sort."

how 'bout this:
combine a few of them . such as:ex..... Florida holidays 2004,
Arizona holidays 2004 and move up. man you'll have a ton of labels,
but not nearly as many as you could. I never thought of sub labels
before..Now I think it might be a good suggestion.

Gmail doesn't offer sub-labels.

But if you install the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox, you can use
the Folders4Gmail userscript.
With Folders4Gmail you can arrange your labels in a hierarchy, like
folders.

Hope that helps.

Great, this is exactly what I was looking for...
I already had Better Gmail installed (but didn't know Folders4Gmail)
so I simply activated it in the extension menu.
It didn't work.
I even restarted Firefox. Still doesn't work.
Sub-label name sits under its parent label, at the same hierarchical
level.

What am I missing? Can you help?

Gmail likely changed its HTML slightly. Look for a new version of the extension.

Get greasemonkey. to to http://userscripts.org/ and click on the
script to install it. take a piece of mail and create a new sub folder
with a backslash after the parent name (eg John\Italy-Nuts-and-Bolts).
Restart firefox. the list on the left of your gmail will now have a +
on the left of the folder named John.

...with a "backslash" !!!!!
How odd, I thought it was "yen" symbol which follows the parent folder
name - because that's what I see in the instruction on
http://www.arend-von-reinersdorff.com/folders4gmail/.
I am guessing it has something to do with my having Japanese
keyboard. I do not have "backslash" written on any key and have to
press Option-Yen for backslash.

Anyway I renamed my sub-folders with backslash and it now works
perfectly!

Thanks a lot for your help! :-)

Hello,
If I may add, it would be helpful to add an option for: Backup/Export/
Import "Labels"
(Smaller to import/export of Contacts)
In particular helpful for future use, incase or lost due to any case!

Now imaging if we have sub-labels + case of data (labels) lost = !
