Hello, I just signed up for mail nation.
http://www.mailnation.net/

Does anyone use this or know more about it? I haven't seen any adds
yet. The site seems rather slow but they claim 1 TB of storage.

I was just there and also signed up. It is VERY slow. Tried to find
settings for Spam, challenge response and whitelists/blacklists with
absolutely no luck.

I got a laugh at the president's message on the home page commenting how
other email services have small message limitations... mailnations limit is
equal to or smaller than Gmail, YahooMail and my ISP.

I sent my self a message and will go back and poke around some more.
Especially want to set up POP/SMTP. If I can find it.

yup...very slow, which is why I haven't tinkered with it too much.  the default look is Outlook but within the settings you can change it to several other looks, Mac OS, Eudora, XP...tho it's so slow that I rarely use it.

their blog apologizes for delays but i haven't seen much improvement.

i had originally signed up for an account for a group i'm involved with to allow others to access --we need a large mailbox and i like that I can change the reply to fields and alias account-- however, since it's so slow it hasn't been worth it to start using the mailbox and program.

Why is it small? 1000 Gb is not enough?

* 10Mb attachment limit! - the same as Gmail
* All emails (outgoing/incoming) are protected by TrendMicro Server
Protect and Avast! AntiVirus (Dual Protection) - cool!
* WAP Access - coool!
* FREE 1000GB Email (POP3/IMAP Access) - coooooooool!

And it is AD-FREE! No more text ads, no more banners :-D

It is great!

Also when composing message you can choose charset (for default it is
in "auto", but if you need...), encrypt message, check "read
confirmation", and it has AJAX interface! This is a great email
service! hahaha

IF, and that's a big "IF", I can find the settings, the server level filters and challenge/response may make it a worth while email service.  Especially if I can get POP/SMTP set up.

Gotta figure out how the aliases work.  Never used them before.  How many can you have?  Back to the not much help help file again.

I just spent some time playing around, and once you get past the horribly slowness of it, its pretty much the same as everyother web mail service (except it give 1TB of storage).  Personally, I thing 1TB is too much.  I was going to have  ahard time filling up Gmail's initial 1GB, I will never need more than that.  I do like how you can change the layout of mailnation.  I would like to see Gmail implement something like that.  If mailnation speeds up thier servers, I thinkthey could pose a threat to Gmail, but right now, I don't see them going far, their just too slow.  Until I see some improvments in mailnation's speeds, I'm sticking with Gmail and not looking back.

It actually pains me to see how slow this is.  It took me 5 minutes for for the sign up page to show, then another 5 just for the confirmation page to load up.  I haven't even tried anything else yet...

From the homepage:
"protocol server address port
pop3 www.mailnation.net 110
imap www.mailnation.net 143
smtp Your ISP 25" - they have no SMTP :-D

It will be interesting to play with... figure out the server filters, anti-spam, whitelists, blacklists, POP, SMTP etc etc etc but until they come up to speed, that is all I will do with it.

MESSAGE (attachment) SIZE not storage space. Limit is 10MB at mailnation...
same as at Gmail.

It might be great if they ever get their speed up. That website is slower
than a herd of turtles going to the soup factory.

Well.... so much for that. Mailnations is dead in my book... unless IMAP
can move mail in both directions. Don't know if I would switch to IMAP mail
client just for email though.

I signed up there -- took a few seconds -- and I had no problems whatsoever with it being slow.

I set up one POP account there just to try it out, and it worked excellent.

If you have forwarding in your other email I guess you can use the aliases for replying to them.

In the help section I read about Calendar. That, I haven't managed to find though... Haven't seen anything about spam filtering either.

I loved the ability to display HTML tags.

If I could trust that they would stay around I could in fact consider to switch over...maybe...

Dunno about those domain names though...why would anyone want to have this guy's family name as email address?! liou
One would think they could have come up with something more catchy than mailnation.

I guess they are supposed to upgrade their servers soon. Not much I can
do until then. Incredibly slow

How does a service like this make money without ads? Do you think they
will add ads once they get more users? Or are they just trying to
collect personal informaiton from everyone's e-mail?

Not until NOW do I see what you mean, you who complained about it being slow. I'm trying to sign in to my newly acquired account -- I've been waiting 5 minutes and I'm not in yet...
When I signed up it was quick...just like here, but not so now! It's a shame though...it was a nice setup.

Mailnation seems to have upgraded their servers, because they are very fast now.  I still don't think that they have anything great to offer, I mean besides the whole TB of storage, but again, who really needs that much?  I would like to see Gmail offer some of the text formatting that mailnation offers, as well as the different layouts, I think I said that already, but it couldn't hurt to say it again.  Maybe if enough people suggest it to google, they will implement it.

Here's something interesting...when I opened an account, I had a
"welcome" email in my inbox. In order to keep the account from being
deleted within 24 hours, I had to go to some Christian Mortgage
refinance page and enter bogus information that MailNation provides!
(Also, if you sign up to yahoo groups using the mailnation email
address, your account will be deleted)

Here's the email:

Another thing I noticed, the "Free" accounts expire in 60 days. You
need to upgrade (one time $19.99 fee) in order to keep the account.

It seems to me that they don't understand the meaning of FREE.  Every other online mail service that has the option of paying lets you keep th account as long as you use it.  The free TB of storage was a cool concept, but now they are seeing just how much it is costing, so they have to start charging, pretty soon, everyone will have to pay for their service.

Yes, it works just as great in FF as in IE. Just tried...
It is lovely, but I don't think it's made for anyone with a dial-up or very slow connection.

i think henpeck may be referring to the print command from the

Yes, I realize that now so I went back there and tried.
It doesn't work when you click on the printer icon for the whole page, however when you bring up the single event and print...that works. That's not the same thing though... I guess they'll have to do something about that.
It did work though, when I pushed the ordinary printer icon in the browser.

It printed the screen just fine. I will wait for them to come up with a
