Hi, All.   Is there any way to delete a particular custom chat status message?  ~Dodo

Hi Dodo

No, unfortunately one can only clear *all* the custom status messages.

Individually I don't think so. You can just go to "clear custom
messages" at the bottom though.

Thanks, Marko and Ryan.  Is there a limit to the number of custom messages?  I  created five, but only three are showing as options.  The other two taking up visible space are "available" (or "busy") and "Custom Message."  Also, some of the messages I'd intended for the "available" section also appear in the "busy" section.  At any rate, how do I select a message I created that isn't visible?  ~Dodo

I think it only keeps a few around (maybe those 3, not sure).

DEP/Dodo - there's a new version of Chat just been launched.
See http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2010/06/making-it-easier-to-video-chat-voice.html
You may have to refresh your version of Gmail to pick up the newer
version ...

3 questions, John:
  1. How do I "refresh" my version of Gmail?
  2. The only thing I do other than regular e-mail is occasionally IM with another Gmailer.  Is this the same as "chat"?  I don't video-chat or voice-chat.
  3. As I've written, I have both Gmail Notifier and Google Talk.  I understand I don't need Google Talk to IM.  Should I do the new version of Chat?  Then, back to #1.

1) There are several ways, but you could try to sign out of Gmail,
and then sign back in again. That way you should pick up the
latest version. Or click on Older version, and then back to
Newer version.
2) Yes Chat is the equivalent of IM, but you don't need to have
anything loaded to do so. It is simply part of Gmail. The Voice
and Video aspects are optional extras which allow you with a
cheap webcam to have a fully interactive service.
3) As you're having problems with Gmail Notifier, I suggested you
try another version, the best of which can be had at
http://www.gmailnotifier.com/
If you have Win7, there's an even better version for that OS
at http://windows7center.com/news/windows-7-gmail-notifier-plus/

I'm away for a few days now, so I can't add more, although I'm sure
there are many others here well able to add info if you're stuck!

If only a place similar to where status messages are stored one could
store customer super stars ;) Or perhaps in the place where canned
responses live?

(1)  I actually do this unintentionally but somewhat requently because we use Google Calendar at work.  If I take a peek at my personal e-mail, as I sometimes do (shhhh), I have to sign out of Google, sign into my personal account, and then sign out to return to my work account.

I took a look but was unsure what to do when I read:  "Note that the application is only at version 1.0, and may contain some bugs."  It also gave me pause to read that this was downloadable via some forum for which I had to register.  That made me uncomfortable.  Also, there was mention of a "mirror" download and I didn't know which was better; specifically:

Here’s an alternate mirror link you can use to download as well:

I will wait for your return unless someone else out there is very knowledgeable and clear about this.  It isn't an urgent matter, thank goodness.

I just discovered accidentally something which answers my question of how to select a custom message which isn't visible.  If you left-click on the Google Talk icon in the taskbar, at the top of the small window that opens is your identity with the appropriately colored little sphere and your current status message underneath.  Click on the little downward arrow to the right, and there are all your custom messages!  I'm feeling pretty good that I found this rather than one of the usual far-more-knowledgeable members of this group.  Yahoo!  (Oops--maybe I shouldn't say that.)  ~Dodo

Now I do need help!  I installed this latest version of Gmail Notifier.  My husband and I both use the desktop.  I installed GN from "my side," for my use only, using my e-mail account information as required (my e-dress and password), but it only shows up on "his side"!

Also, I checked the preferences, and "run at startup" was not checked as a default setting.  Shouldn't it have been since I want to know what's going on in my account upon logging in?

I would like to resolve this issue asap!  Thanks.  In the meantime, I'll keep experimenting, wasting much time in the process, because I am being challenged!  ~Dodo

I finally figure it out!  It's the second time tonight I've figured something out on my own!  I learned that this GN version (1.0.0.81) is not compatible with Vista!  So, back to version 1.0.25.

Also, for reasons unknown to me, I am again receiving GN via both sight and sound on the laptop.  Even though the laptop has Windows 7, which is compatible with GN version 1.0.0.81, I'm leaving it as is!  I've had enough challenges for one night!  ~Dodo
