typing messages on gmail is slow and painful

Anyone have an answer to why  -  I have to type the letters several times to make them appeaar -  or  back up and take out spaces.      My one email address is worse  -  nearly impossible to type a message.  

I have a no. of people using this one email address  so hate to change but this is so frustrating.

Sounds like you are running into this, known issue:

If this fits your situation, you should click the "Report It" link on that page, and potentially add your e-mail address to their "tell me when it's fixed" list via the link on that page.  Also, there is a link to download Firefox, and from the main Help page, there's a link for Chrome.  Both are good free programs that don't have this problem.  I use them both.
