Hi

I just figured out today that gmail didn't allow me sending WinZip
attachments...

Any comments?

I think this was discussed before...
I'm not sure about other Zips, but a WinZip with an Executable in it
(*.exe) will not be sent or received by Gmail. It's in the help
section of Gmail.

i tried sending several times...winzip file....but didn't go
through...gave me messages that for security reasons can't sent....i
guess gmail is still working on scanning the emails for the viruses so
doesn't allow any exe file to be send...

I just sent a zip file to one of my other email addresses. No
problem, and I get zip files all the time.

gmail doesnt allow EXE files as attachement nor does it allow you to
send ZIP files with EXEs in them

I don't believe they're _working_ on it, atleast not in that sense.
It's a philosophical issue. Executable code shouldn't be allowed to be
sent via "push" medium such as email.

lol, tar.gz it...and it would be fine. heh
but anyways, I don't think that it should matter what is sent via
email...as long as it is isolated and not embeded and such...

that's because they don't look in rars, just .zip since that is the
most widly used format

Wouldn't it work if you change the extension of the file to one that
they don't block (like .txt) , send it, then tell the other person to
rename it to .zip or whatever?

yeah, but you need to make sure that it won't break the encoding...but
it should work.
