I cannot get rid of the ticked box on "remember me" on the sigh-in
page. Yes, I have cleared cookies in both Firefox and IE6. But the
ticked box remains. How can I get rid of it, please?

May by a wrong question but what is a ticked box?
But what you can do is using https://mail.google.com/mail/ or
http://mail.google.com/mail/
Hopes this works.
Anyway tell me what a ticked box is.

The "tick box" is on the opening page of gmail when yoiu sign on. It
says "remember me on this computer". I must have ticked it once and now
it always comes up with a tick...or a check mark as you'd say in the
US. The url you gave is what I actually use.

According to this help page
<https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=8494> it should
be based on a cookie. Make sure you're logged out by clicking
Sign-Out and it should clear the cookie itself. Then if you want to
manually clear cookies, that's when you should do it.

Nope, that doesn't work. I had already done that but tried
again....signed out. Cleared cookies manually. The tick (checkmark) is
still there. Any other ideas, please???

If you're actually getting the login page, then the cookie is indeed
gone (just thought about that this morning).

The other thing I meant to mention (though it's in the link if you
read it), is to check your autocomplete settings in the browser.
Since the cookie's gone and your' on the login page, the values filled
into boxes (including check boxes) is from your system's autocomplete
functions, nothing on the web.

The "remember me" setting gets automatically checked for some services.
For example, when I have to login to my custom homepage, the box is
already checked. However, Gmail AFAIK is one the services which does
_not_ do that. If you are logging in to Gmail/Google from the "sign in"
link on the Google homepage, this is likely your problem. Nothing you
can do about it.
