Hello,
Is there any way to retrieve lost attachments? I saved a document
as an attachment to a draft so I could access it from a different
computer but at one point, I mistakenly unchecked the attachment from
the draft so it was removed. I'm sure the file is still stored on
Gmail's servers but I have no way of accessing it anymore. Is there
any way to get a list of previously attached files to a draft.

Thank you.

Why not just reattach it from your computer?

I don't the have the original copy on the first computer anymore so if
there was a way to recover attachments, it would help me so much.

So let me get this straight ...

You deleted the original copy of the file on your computer.

You deleted the one copy of the file in your Gmail drafts.

Now you want Google to make the file magically re-appear.

Google can't save you from shooting yourself in the foot.

What makes you "sure" that the file is still stored anywhere at Google? If
you deleted it, you told them you didn't want it anymore, so there's no
reason to think they kept it on their servers, "just in case."

Yes it is possible that it exists somewhere on some backup tape or disk, but
I don't know how Google handles backups of the huge amounts of data they
store, and as far as I know they would not go through their backup tapes
looking for this one particular file that you deleted. For all I know,
Google uses image backups rather than backing up individual files, in which
case the backups do not index which files are on them; they are meant only
to recover whole filesystems if one of them breaks.

My assumption is that Google is not in the file recovery business, and if
you wanted this done, if they even can do it for you, you would probably
have to pay Google some big buck$ to do it.

Instead of storing the email and attachement as a draft, you should have set up another email address and sent it to yourself.

Something to consider for the future...

But on this occassion ... its gone.

I think you don't need another account to do this. Just send it as an
attachment in an email to yourself. It will appear in your Sent mail box,
or in All mail (but it probably won't appear in the Inbox).

Gmail won't stop you from deleting that email at some point in the future,
but it does give you an extra chance to get it back if you do, because
deletes aren't permanent until you empty the Trash. And you can't delete
attachments from normal emails, like you can with Drafts.

To me, this is just another example of the efficacy of setting up a
Hotmail account and having all your Gmail forwarded to it. You'll
never accidentally delete anything from both (nor is a major
malfunction at either server even a temporary problem).

search "filename:jpg"  This will find all your gmail messages with an attachment with the extension .jpg... then you can add search terms to help you narrow the search to the message you're looking for.

What troubleshooting steps have you taken? Cleared cache and cookies?

This is not free Gmail support, this is a forum of users. Do try and help yourself before posting here and expecting people to jump at your 'urgent' requests.
