"Do you want this webpage to access your clipboard?" is the popup
message I get when I go to copy something from a message, for pasting
to say the search mail box. Once I click "don't allow", from then on
my copy and pasting becomes very slow. How can I stop this and not
allow access to my clipboard? I found this warning elsewhere - 'If
you visit a website and are asked if you’d like to allow the site to
read your clipboard, you probably want to say NO. Unless you’re
expecting the web page to be reading your clipboard, you should not
allow it. It could be something sneaky, possibly gathering passwords
or credit card information".

What web browser are you using? I've never seen that error get put up
by Gmail in any browser I've used.

However, you should allow it access. The clipboard is where copy and
pasting stuff happens, so you do want it to be able to access it.

I'm using Microsoft Windows XP.

What about this warning - 'If you visit a website and are asked if
you’d like to allow the site to read your clipboard, you probably want
to say NO. Unless you’re expecting the web page to be reading your
clipboard, you should not allow it. It could be something sneaky,
possibly gathering passwords or credit card information".

This only happens on my google email.

How much information can be gleaned by someone from having access to
my clipboard?

I found this page using google web search - http://www.winvistaclub.com/s15.html
- and have done this: To circumvent this Clipboard Hack Problem: Open
IE7 > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level > Security Settings >
Under Scripting > Allow programmatic clipboard access > Disable >
Apply > OK.

I hope this works for me.

As far as I'm concerned, a web page should NEVER be reading the
clipboard directly. I would imagine the message comes from some type
of security software program that is being run.

Yes, you DO want to be able to PASTE in something from your clipboard
to a web page, when convenient. But that's different than the web
page reading the contents of your clipboard directly whenever it wants
to.

As was mentioned, suppose the previous site you visited was someplace
you ordered something from and you copied and pasted in your credit
card number. Do you want every web page you access after that to be
able to read the clipboard and see your credit card number, even if
you're not pasting it into their web page?
