I have 2 computers, on one, who is new I have chat, but on this one,
who is old, very old (he is on windows 98) I don't have it! I don't
know what to do! help!

Down at the bottom  there is a link, Gmail view:  standard with chat.  click on the that link.

It's right under where Gmail tells you how your storage is doing.

Just had a thought... are you logging into different GMail accounts on
each computer? Does the account on the older computer have the
language set to something other than "English (US)"? If so, then it
won't have chat... AFAIK Chat is only in US English right now

How can you not have the link?  It's a basic part of the Gmail webpage.  Do you have the text that shows how much space you have used?

Specifically it could be one that doesn't have Javascript, so it's
forced into basic HTML view. That would explain her post of text from
the bottom of the page.
