Hi J Miller

Not sure about the canned responses, but this is a Gmail user group.
You can get great useful help from here, but not help from Google staff, everyone here is just like you, a user.

Cheers

I have a incredibly difficult password to crack so I doubt someone has hacked my account and deleted them.
What is going on Google?

John do you have a way to find the missing canned responses?

Here is what little I know about canned responses.

Gmail stores them in Drafts; however it knows they are actually canned responses so normally you don't see them if you look there.

But, if you open Gmail with the older HTML version, for example, it doesn't know about canned responses, so it does show them in Drafts.

That could potentially be why Gmail isn't showing you the missing canned responses.  Are you logging in from an unsupported web browser, or is your Internet connection slow?  That might have forced Gmail to use the older HTML version.  Do other things in Gmail look different?

Another possibility is corrupt code got into your cache.  Try clearing your web browser's cache and cookies.

My canned responses still work.  FYI.

Andy,

My canned responses have always showed up under drafts, and if I deleted the draft, the canned response went away.  I've used Chrome exclusively in Gmail, and barely/rarely used canned responses, but that's how I remember it happening.

Hmm, that's odd.

My canned responses have always been hidden from view and never show up in Drafts (unless logged on with the HTML interface), so I can't delete them there.  I would have to use the Canned Responses sub-menu to delete them.

I just now looked again, and sure enough, my Drafts appears to be "empty" (other than this reply), yet I have two saved Canned Responses which still work.  I also use Chrome.

Your password may be long and complicated but cracking that is not usually how accounts are compromised. In the majority of cases, accounts are compromised due to the operating system itself being compromised and, for example, a keystroke logger being installed thereby capturing one's login.

I wondered where mine keep going - I realised that it's when I access my mail using the Gmail Android app I have deleted the "Drafts" from there thinking that they weren't needed and not realising that these were in fact my canned responses.

They do not appear as Drafts when I access my email account via the web browser.

Fortunately I have the text backed up in another service so could put them back by cut and paste.
