I know that if you open a msg - and move it to a label you can then
delete it from the "Inbox Label" This keeps my inbox clear of all the
items Ive read or worked. If Im in the inbox - I can "move" multiple
emails from there to a label, but how do I delete them from the inbox
all at the same time? Your help is appreciated!

After you've selected them for applying the label, use the Archive
button, or from the "More Actions..." menu. Archive = Remove Inbox
label.

What doesn't make sense?

Keep in mind it was written more than three and a half years ago and
some menus have changed.

If you mean the "double job" of adding a label and then moving a
message out of the Inbox, then use Gmail's "Move" button which does
both at the same time.

I think you are confusing two meanings of the word "archive".

Within Gmail, "Archive" means "Remove the Inbox label", or "take this
message out of the Inbox". You can do this by pressing the "Archive"
button. (By the way, it does not and never did move messages into
some sort of permanent or different storage area. All Gmail messages
are already permanently stored, except for Spam or Deleted messages.)

Using IMAP to download messages to your local PC's email program is
something else entirely, and is not related to the Gmail Archive step.

Eh?

What is "the gmail\all mail process"?

If you find Gmail not up to the task for you, then don't use it. But
I see no reason to abolish Gmail simply because you don't like
something about it.

There's no need for insulting responses.

In today's latest iteration of Gmail (web), you cannot select "Move" when multiple emails are selected with a filter. You have to then return to the inbox and select move from there. Which is an odd UI move and an odd process move. How many people would intuitively believe that going back to the Inbox would keep their filter choices?

The OP was obviously frustrated. And you should take that into account instead of being insulting. Your response sounds more like an Apple Support response than an attempt at actual help.

What was the insult? I don't see it.

I'm assuming by 'filter' that you mean 'label'. If I select multiple messages within a label, I am offered the 'Move to:' drop-down. What am I missing here?

Again, I don't see how Andy's response was insulting. What do suppose yours is re. Apple Support?

Regarding supposed insult - I think it's the self-righteous, nerdy geek kinda tone that can irk someone who's not of the same ilk.

Anyway, glad there's people out there like youse who try to fix other's issues. Let's all not be too sensitive and unite as one in the face of evil email frustration.

Request for improvement: Simply add "Inbox" in the "Label As" pull down menu, allowing check and uncheck, would solve this intuition problem. Really using "Archive" is counter-intuitive (or less intuitive) and unnecessarily clumsy. I believe made "Inbox" a special case is against the original gmail design intent.
