it was the first i've witnessed any such mail reach my Gmail-inbox.
indeed, it's not terribly unlike a [free] hosted-service provider to
issue such a warning to any user whose account has been inactive for
greater than 30 days (or approximately so), prompting the account-
holder to show some activity if he or she does indeed wish to maintain
the account, lest the provider destroy all data held there, if not
destroy the account altogether. (e.g. many times, one of my rarely
used Y! or Hotmail accounts have been 'restored' upon logging in after
being away so long that any record of correspondence once held there,
has been erased.
If i've opened an account for some special, limited or perhaps
anonymous use so many months ago-- to find upon log-in today that all
data accumulated there from such little activity, so long ago, has
since been deleted by the Service Provider is, in my opinion, rather
like 'par for the course'-- that is, to lose what was most probably
NOT important data, is then after all, no great loss altogether.
Google, however, seems to offer-- no, to /give/ away so much-- as
might the satisfied gods open a door to the heavens; to be willing to
share the bounty with everyone, without question or prerequisite (or
periodic check-in as if to say "Please hold the door for me!")
i admit, for one brief moment, i was alarmed by it too-- such surprise
bolstered by the coincidence that this recipient-box is indeed my
least-often-used Gccount. Upon opening the message, reading the
warning which I felt was addressing my infrequent use of the account,
I thought to myself: "Wow! G-mail must plan to delete any accounts
belonging to inactive users; those Gmailers who, like I with this
particular userID, are doing little more than 'sitting on' their
accounts". I was only a couple of sentences into the message when it
became (or, so I believe) rather obvious that the sender was NOT
Google, or any Google affiliate for that matter, but some Phisherman
trolling the fiber-optic sea, hoping for a bite from anyone unfortunat
enough to be duped by the blantant immitation of Google, the Gmail
team, etc.
I've attached for your own safety, the source of the message.

don't feel bad for 'not knowing', or 'not understanding' what all of
the complex numbers, code, names, etc-- what it all means. It's VERY
IMPORTANT that you not be afraid to look at this sort of information--

Gmail, or another service, there should be a way for you to view the
otherwise 'hidden' information. it's hidden for 'good reason', as you
might agree-- because to the average user-- it looks like
gobbledegook! BUT, check this out...
Below, you'll see the source of a Phishing scam e-mail i received. At
the very top, i took the FIRST 'IP ADDRESS' recorded (10.114.155.5).
It's not 'DNA', so to speak, but it can help. I used that IP address
in a general Google search, and the following page was returned. And I
learned. And, hopefully, you'll have learned. and... yay! we're
getting somewhere!

cannot look up or otherwise resolve those IP addresses.

I was starting to wonder if the original of this conversation (about email
headers) went out via email to members of the group, because I didn't
receive it.

Good thing I checked, because, out of the blue today, Gmail's spam filter
has suddenly started to throw over a dozen new non-spam messages into my
account's Spam box.
I thought my Gmail spam filter was pretty well 'trained' by this point,
because it hardly ever had a false-positive lately ... until today!
Something has definitely changed. I think Google must have updated their
spam filter algorithm, with unintended consequences.
So beware! Logon to your accounts and check your Spam 'folder' to see
what's there. You might be surprised.
(Unless I am the only one affected.)

No, you're not the only one affected. Google probably updated the
base filter for Spam and increased the false-positives. I've seen
this happen 2-5 times in the past few years. Keep an eye on "spam"
and it'll be retrained again in a couple days.

they ask you for you password. No legitimate company will ever ask you

Dormant addresses
A dormant address is a Gmail address that hasn't been used for six
months.
You can still receive mail if your address is dormant, but you need to
log in to keep your account active.
If you don't log in to Gmail within three months of it being labeled
dormant -- or for nine consecutive months -- Google may delete the

In other words, don't count on an old account lasting forever. They might
not be deleting them today, but they might tomorrow.
