I heard some speculations and rumors that G-mail has gone public, and
is this true?

Also, whenever I log into my G-mail, it says loading in the corner, but
then the page goes blank and it says done and I can't get in.
thanx,

1) If it had, you would probably be able to determine such by hitting
CNN.com or Google's site or many many many other places.

2) Given that you have a Gmail account, and are experienceing
difficulties with it (as well as most likely being aware of how many
things on Gmail really really really require tweaking) the odds of it
going public this summer are slim, in my best guess.

Try doing a forced-reload ( <shift>+reload in most browsers)

I could be wrong, but I doubt that Gmail will go public before they've
instituted the "save draft" feature, since it's pretty much universal
for both webmail and client mail. Since that's still at the "We'll
Try" stage, I don't see Gmail going public anytime soon.

As was said above, just click "Reload" a time or two. This situation
had me stumped for about a week or so, but this simple click fixed it.

Clear your cookies. This happened to me and a cookie flush fixed it.

I was about to answer your first question, until you mentioned your
other question, which practically should have answered the first.
Gmail can't go public until that "loading" problem (and other
glitches) get resolved first.

Right, but who's to say that they don't have another server that is a
private developer server where they initially develop things and then
they transfer them to the 'live' servers. On that note, who's to say
how close they might be to having the features we want, and launching
public gmail...

....which all goes back to my point #1: when it goes public, no one
will have to rely on rumour to find out.

Haha, yeah. There is no way I can see them going public and not
telling anyone. It will be a big revolutionary new email system.

Something else that wouldn't be a bad thing...if before they went full
public, just give out a load of invites...the invites WILL get used
and that way it might ease the initial load on the servers....

That wouldn't be bad at all. Have the newbies come in in waves,
rather than as a single front.

Right, see the way i see it, if you give out like 5-10 invites for all
users, then they people who really want it, will get it, then all of
the other people who don't really care can come in when it goes public

Plus, the ones that really want in will be the ones that test it more
effectively, and provide the most productive feedback. Not to mention
that it builds up hype and demand ("I can't have it, so I want it").
It certainly is a good strategy.

gmail going public is going to based on them going IPO.. Google won't
give a date until they come out of the quiet mode

Everyone also seems to forget that the whole invite method is a huge
publicity stunt/marketing genius. Think about it. If they would have
opened the beta up to public from the get-go, it would have been flash
in the pan. Sure, it would be widely used and create alot of
publicity.

But the invite scheme is truly marketing genius. It gets the people
who are really interested, who rather tech based, and have contacts in
from the beggining. These few, select "elite" have qualities that
help Google. A) Someone interested will spread the word around, thus
causing more publicity. And its the best kind, viral. B) People who
are at least slightly technically oriented. These people have the
ability to spread the word on the net in ways ordinary people
dont/cant (ie. have a blog, visit alot of forums, run their own
forums, etc) and lastly (quite possibly the most important) C) have
alot of contacts. Many of the people will have contacts to people in
important places, thus getting the word out more.

The whole invite scheme , in my opinion, originated from Orkut. Orkut
was the "test run" of the invite scheme for GMail. They found that it
worked, but was a tad to "loose" for this purpose. Tweak a tad, you
have a publicity machine.

Just my thoughts

Well I definitely agree with your thoughts. Also, Gmail users actually
look forward to getting their invites to pass them out. It's like being
a show off almost lol. Not on purpose of course.

Okay, I've been looking at your posts, etc. I have to say the one who
said the invites were publicity stunts is totally right! Also, I saw
the answers to my Loading problem. Well, (sorry to say) none of them
worked. I force reloaded got 6 new browsers, cleared cookies and cache.
I just don't know how to fix it :-(
