Gmail fetched 3 emails for 2 accounts, but only one showed up in Spam folder

Hello,
I use gmail to fetch from 2 accounts. Sometimes I go to settings and
fetch the gmail manually, instead of waiting for the next fetch. A few
times I've done this and it would say 2 from this account fetched and
1 from that, but when I go back to the in box screen they don't all
show up, either in Spam or in the the in box. Does google toss
suspect messages without telling us? I've had them leave suspect
messages on the server I fetched from, but then they informed me of
it.

What's up?

Yes/No... if the message was already marked as Spam on the far side I
suspect that's when it's not fetched (this is definitely true gmail to
gmail, but can't say 100% with others). If it's not marked as spam on
the far side, then it'll be fetched, and if it's then determined to be
spam, it'll get marked (just as new mail coming directly in will get
marked) without telling you. This is why it's good that GMail doesn't
throw away spam immediately, but keeps it for you to review for false
positives. I've had spam missed in other accounts that GMail then
catches.

It also often takes you manually clicking the "refresh" link in the
inbox for the messages appear, instead of waiting a minute or so
before Gmail does it automatically.

Is it possible that it fetched the 2 messages but they were in the same
conversation so you now see them listed as only one item?

As far as I know, Google/Gmail never tosses a suspected spam message, which
is one feature many Gmail users really appreciate.

But they do toss duplicate (and near-duplicate) messages, including received
copies of ones that YOU sent. It is really annoying.

I have also experienced this delay. Even when you force Gmail to go fetch mail from other accounts, and then refresh the browser, the newly fetched mails don't always show up straight away.

I can only assume that it takes a little time for the mails to work through Gmails servers. The server that receives the fetched mail is not neccessarily the same one that you are reading your mail from. And if you have filters set up the servers need to apply those rules.

But maybe that is all too simplistic.

Maybe, but you mirror exactly what GMail says on the help page:
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=29386

"Delivery of fetched messages may occur up to an hour after a
successful fetch attempt."

Thanks for all the posts.  I was concerned that somehow emails that were fetched were being lost somehow.  I think that's not the case.
Thanks!
