Recently, for the first time, I have received several invitations to
chat from strangers. There have been approximately three in the past
three weeks. I'm wondering if these people got my e-dress from my
posts to this group which I have been sending from my Gmail account
rather than from this group interface. ??? ~Dodo

Your address is visible either way, so that's not the issue. Honestly
wouldn't worry about it, I get them all the time. The ignore option
works beautifully. ;)

The e-dress is not visible either way on my end, Ryan.  I see your (and my) complete e-dress when we post from Gmail and only a partial on the Group's site.  I did ignore the first invitation I got, thinking it would go away.  Not only did it remain, but eventually the person got on my contact list.  (Or I think he/she did but can't figure out how that could happen.)  As a result, I now "just say no."  ~Dodo

When Google Groups sees an email address, it automatically makes it a partial with a link to a "human test" to prevent spam bots from scraping email addresses out of posts.  Once someone passes this "human test", all email addresses in the posts become clearly visible.  This is what Ryan meant.  Once someone proves to Google Groups that they are not a machine, they can see any email address that is posted.

Well, I understood some of what you said, Nick, maybe every other word.  Just kidding--sort of.  How does someone pass this human test??

Also, as it turned out, right after I sent my original post, I found another request to chat.  This time, I'm not going to say no but, instead, do nothing, to see what happens.  I want to confirm whether or not the person somehow gets onto one of my contact lists.  Or do you know?  ~Dodo

Oh!  I just figured it out.  I tried it on Ryan's name.  However, I couldn't pass the test!!  ~Dodo

Hahaha too bad. :)

They shouldn't be placed on your contact list (_maybe_ on the
suggested one?), so I'd just go ahead and deny it. That's all you can
really do.

I have several contact lists. Which one do you think of? How do you

I subsequently passed the test with your name, Ryan.  So ha-ha back atcha!  With regard to the latest invitation, I'm going to play this out for a few days.  I'm trying to recall a previous one I mentioned which eventually disappeared on its own.  However, as I said, I think it landed in a contact list.  We'll see--unless someone in the group shares a negative experience about not saying yes or no.  ~Dodo

I thought one of the knowledgeable regulars in this group would
respond to your question, but apparently no one has. You can add or
remove contacts to groups that Google has created (Friends, Family Co-
workers) or you have created. Just place a check mark by a contact's
name, click on the Groups tab, and add or delete as you wish. Hope
this helps. ~Dodo
