The symbols on the Gmail page next to names

I have been trying to find out what the color-coding of the circles
next to people's names in the Chat box mean. For example, a name will
show with a circle next to it colored orange with a little clock. When
I am on line, there is a green circle next to my name, and a green
circle next to the name of anyone else in my chat list on Google. But
one of the people I chat with says that there is a red circle next to
her name.

So where does one go in Google Help to know what all of these little
things mean?

I find it funny how many times the same question gets asked within the
same week... The dots indicate online status. Green means online,
orange means idle, red means busy, gray means not online

You responded to a 6.5 yr old thread.

Also, as is stated in our title, this is a user's group, not Google, so we can't put anything into the help pages; and even when something is well documented elsewhere, it's often asked again and again without people going to look stuff up.  It's a fact of life that some people find it easier to ask a question in the first place they look rather than check a couple sources first.
