You can either mark the mail as spam, or set up a filter to auto-delete any messages from that group.

You could filter it. See the 'More actions' dropdown, or the one next
to 'Reply'.

Not sure how you got joined automatically but emails from the Yahoo
groups I'm a member of all have the group information at the very
bottom, including information on how to unsubscribe. I'm pretty sure
you also need a Yahoo ID to be a member of a Yahoo group, or am I
mistaken?

You are slightly mistaken.  Any e-mail can be a member of Yahoo Groups, just as they can be in Google Groups.  When an e-mail is subscribed to a group they get a defacto profile (as Google does) but never have to actually log into it.

SMSMan,
If you did not voluntarily sign up for this group, that still counts as spam, so you should check for a link to report the group to the yahoogroups administrators.  My guess is they'll close the group and go after the people who opened it.

For the sake of completeness ...

Every Yahoogroup has an easy way to unsubscribe, and no Yahoo ID is needed.

If the group's name is "this_group", send an email addressed to:

this_group-unsubscribe @ yahoogroups .com

(without the spaces). The subject and content of the email don't
matter, and it works automatically without any human intervention.
Googlegroups work the same, except with "+unsubscribe" rather than
"-unsubscribe" in the address.

However, if you want to follow up with Yahoo about why you got
subscribed without your approval, you might not want to unsubscribe
just yet.

In the meantime, you can use a Gmail filter to delete the unwanted
messages. (Hint: use the "Filter messages like this" function.)
