Hello, Group.

Until yesterday, when I used Bcc for selected recipients in the new interface, I would click on Bcc on the right, which then reproduced a Bcc field on the left under the To field.  Then I clicked on that Bcc at which point a list of my sub-groups of Contacts was available, e.g., Friends.  Now I get a list, My contacts, which has more names than those in my Friends list.  What happened to my Friends and other sub-groups I had?

I see what you're seeing too.  My Contacts in the upper-left corner appears as if it should be a clickable button so that you can select other contact groups but it doesn't work.  Clicking on it has no effect.  I tried it in Chrome and Firefox but to no avail.

Looks like a bug to me.

Worked the same for me, though I tried only Chrome.  I didn't see any obvious reason why, but I don't normally address that way, so it's not a direct concern for me.  Were cache and cookies cleared to see if a difference was made?

I've attached a screenshot of what I see when I click on To or Cc or Bcc in the new compose interface.  A pop-up window appears in the center of the screen listing everyone under My Contacts.  The button that says My Contacts in the upper-left corner of that window appears as if it should be a button which can be clicked on to change its setting.  But clicking on that button has no effect.  Nothing changes.

Zack and Elihu, are you saying you can change that My Contacts button to another contact group name?

Exactly, Kenneth!  None of my sub-groups can be found.  So I have to go through the names that are presented and select those I want.  This began suddenly.  Similarly, since yesterday, names have disappeared from My Contacts.

No... I was meaning that I saw it, and agree it looked like clicking should work, but it doesn't... but also that it doesn't bother me since I never even that screen before the problem was brought up, because I've always used auto-complete.

Zack,

Ah, ok.  I never noticed it before either so it doesn't really impact me.  Still, it's clearly a bug and one recently introduced since Dodo says it was working a few days ago.  How does one report bugs to Google?

Dodo, is it working now for you?

It's working for me now too...  The help page has a few links, and I'm pretty sure the "Send Feedback" link under the "gear" will work for reporting bugs as well.

Speaking of the "Send Feedback" link under the "gear" ...

What determines who has that choice and who doesn't?  Is it only people whose Gmail accounts date back to when Gmail was in "Beta", and everyone who came later doesn't have that option?

I don't think so.  I have that option under the gear.  I am using a free Google Apps account and not a free Gmail account though.

On the top right of the page, right below your own profile link, and above the contact's information, and to the right of the arrows for going forward/backward in your queue.

At that location I have a Settings icon which reminds me of a sheriff's badge.  There is no "Send Feedback" link within it.  See screen shot.

That screenshot you shared isn't showing what's within the gear/settings icon.  You need to click on the little down-arrow on the sheriff's badge.  Looks like you must have clicked on something else below it.

Kenneth, in days past I had a gears icon.  I am not aware of when it disappeared or where it went.  The "sheriff's badge" is the Settings icon, as I previously wrote.  Also as I wrote, there is no feedback link there.  I will do another screen shot although, after the first one, I wasn't happy that there were contacts' names I hadn't seen seen to redact them (hadn't scrolled sufficiently).

Odd... perhaps I've enabled some new feature I didn't realize and that's why it's there (between Themes and Help)... oh well, the links on the Help page should be consistent, and that's the main place to submit at.

That "sheriff's badge" IS the gear icon.  In the past there may have been different gear icons with different numbers of teeth.  This one has 6 teeth.

Also as I wrote, there is no feedback link there.

Some Gmail accounts have the "Send Feedback" link, and others do not.  I have seen this first-hand.

I think it has to do with exactly when you first got your Gmail account.  Maybe only those of us who signed up for Gmail early, have that link in the menu, because we were all supposed to be beta testers with an implied obligation to give them feedback.

Where to start?  More strangeness!  My husband and I are the two users of our new computer.  His Settings icon (that "sheriff's badge") contains an additional group of three items below the ones shown in my screen shot of May 31!  One of those three is "Send Feedback"!  That group of three must be what some of you have mentioned.  How can he have that and I don't when we're using the same computer but as separate users?

While I'm here, I don't know how to find a group that can answer another question regarding all my bookmarks that are displayed when he is the user.  Obviously, this Gmail Users Group is the place to get help with all things Gmail.  But what group can help me with this other puzzle?  I've searched using various forms of "bookmarks."  Thank you for any help here as well.

That drop-down menu (the Gear icon menu, or as you call it, "sheriff's badge") is a Gmail thing.  It is not a property of the computer.  Your Gmail account and his Gmail account are different.

While I'm here, I don't know how to find a group that can answer another question regarding all my bookmarks that are displayed when he is the user.

You are using Google Chrome, right?

It bugs the heck out of me too.  Even when someone is logged out of Chrome (since Chrome itself is now something that you can login to), their Bookmarks seem to carry over to anyone else who uses Chrome on that computer.

It is so ridiculous that if someone goes to a friend's computer and logs into Chrome, and then logs out, it transfers all of their Bookmarks over to the friend's computer and they are now stuck with them.

I don't know who dreamed that up.  It just seems illogical to me.  I now stay away from Bookmarks.

Thank you for the fast reply, Andy.  I've solved the bookmarks puzzle, although it's not quite the same as it was on our outgoing computer.  But it does what we wanted.  I clicked on the "Customize and control Google Chrome" icon and added a new user on the Settings page.  So now he as his bookmarks and I have mine.  This also reinforced for me what you wrote about the Gear icon's being "a Gmail thing" while the other, as its name makes clear, is a Chrome thing.

So the mystery that remains for me is why some of us have more options than others within the Gears {"sheriff's badge") icon.

Are there more differences besides the "Send feedback" choice?
